In a significant development, the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee announced the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon. After the conclusion of the IPL 2026, the Indian team will lock horns with their Afghan counterparts in a one-off Test and three ODIs in June.

The Afghanistan tour of India 2026 begins with a one-off Test match at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh, commencing on June 6. After that, both teams will clash in three ODIs, scheduled for June 14, 17 and 20, in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai, respectively.

Meanwhile, the BCCI selection committee has finalised the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan, as the Men in Blue get ready to kick-start their preparations for the 2027 World Cup edition. Ishan Kishan has made a well-deserved comeback to the team amid his batting exploits for SRH in IPL 2026.

Ishan Kishan becomes part of India's 2027 World Cup plans

Swashbuckling batter Ishan Kishan had a breakthrough domestic season for Jharkhand last year. He led Jharkhand to a historic Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph, besides amassing 155 runs at a blistering strike rate of 231.34 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Ishan's prolific returns led to his T20I comeback, as he played a significant role in their victorious T20 World Cup campaign. With Rishabh Pant struggling to get going in the IPL 2026, Ishan returns to India's 2027 World Cup plans as the backup opener and wicketkeeper.

Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya get in; No Jasprit Bumrah

Several media reports claimed that Rohit Sharma could be sidelined from the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan due to fitness concerns. The veteran cricketer recently sustained a hamstring injury, which ruled him out of five matches in the tournament.

However, the former captain has been included in the team and his participation in the Afghanistan ODIs will be subject to fitness. The same thing can be said about Hardik Pandya, who missed some matches for Mumbai Indians due to a back spasm.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been excluded from the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan to manage his workload. The ace speedster has also been left out of the Test side after a gruelling IPL season.

Virat Kohli to spearhead Indian batting unit; Ravindra Jadeja out

Talismanic batter Virat Kohli is all set to lead the Indian batting unit against Afghanistan. Virat Kohli has looked sublime in IPL 2026 and would be keen to sustain his purple patch in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has been left out of the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan.

As revealed by BCCI selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, Ravindra Jadeja has been excluded as the Indian team management wants to test several fresh faces, including Harsh Dubey.

Gurnoor Brar, who has bagged 12 wickets in nine List-A matches, has found a place in the India ODI squad vs Afghanistan. He has also been included in the Test side, with Jasprit Bumrah missing out.
