England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook is enjoying a significant rise to the top, but it is a shame that the 27-year-old is not playing in the IPL. The right-handed batter has often expressed his displeasure over foreign leagues and wants to commit to international cricket and The Hundred.
At present, Brook is playing in The Hundred but for an IPL-backed side. The 27-year-old has been roped in by Sunrisers Leeds, the sister franchise of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Brook made his IPL debut in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, but left the franchise after a year, which was his final appearance in the cash-studded league.
Harry Brook Takes a U-Turn on His Earlier Stance
In the latest event, Harry Brook, speaking to Cricinfo, took a U-turn on his earlier stance and remarked that he would love to return to the IPL.
"Yeah, definitely. The IPL is a great competition, and it's a great experience, and you go over there, you leave a better player. It's a very good competition to be a part of, and it's something that I'll definitely think about in the future," remarked Harry Brook.
"Who knows what the future holds, but yeah, and as I said, I'm completely focused on playing as much cricket as I possibly can for England, and that is my only priority at the moment," he said.
Harry Brook Reverses His Stance After IND vs ENG T20Is
Right before the India series, Harry Brook was hell-bent on his earlier stance of not playing the IPL and stated that he would only prioritise International cricket and the Hundred.
“I've committed completely to England cricket. I've said that I don't want to play any franchise cricket barring the Hundred and given everything that I want to do is to play cricket for England and whatever I do on and off the field is to try and be and perform as well as I possibly can for England, and hence the reason I don't play in the IPL and PSL and all the other franchise competitions,” Brook remarked in July.

However, the England white-ball captain has taken a U-turn on his stance. Notably, Brook had a great T20I series where he scored 229 runs in 4 innings, averaging 114.50. At present, he is with Leed’s, scoring 206 runs in 8 innings, averaging 29.43.
Is Harry Brook Eligible To Play IPL 2027?
For the unversed, after Brook left SRH in 2023, he went to the auction and was bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. However, the 27-year-old withdrew from the league due to the passing of his grandmother.
In the following year, Brook again registered for the IPL and was roped in by Delhi Capitals. For the 2nd consecutive year, Brook ditched the Capitals and returned home citing personal reasons. By then, the IPL had a few rules in place, and they imposed a two-year ban on Harry Brook.
So, Harry Brook is currently serving his punishment and won’t be available for selection till IPL 2028.
