Ashleigh Gardner, vice-captain of the Australia women’s team, has finally broken her silence on the allegations levied by her ex-wife Monica Wright. Wright had accused Gardner of being unfaithful towards her and having an affair with an Australian teammate.
Monica Wright was outspoken about Ashleigh Gardner's cheating issue and pushed Cricket Australia to remove the player from the vice-captaincy position. Wright went public after discussing the cheating and placing the blame on the media's top body.

Following the remarks, the vice-captain of Australia has finally responded to her ex-wife's accusations. Wright had previously made fun of both Cricket Australia and Gardner. Ashleigh Gardner has stepped out to address the issue and defend herself.
She discussed the situation on her Instagram story, saying that the split is a personal concern and that, since she is the team's vice-captain, Cricket Australia should handle it. She also thanked Cricket Australia for its support.
“While my separation from my wife is a personal matter, I understand my current relationship status needed to be addressed by Cricket Australia given my position as vice-captain. I am grateful that the CA Board has chosen to support my continued leadership. I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the season to come,” Gardner posted on Instagram.

Ashleigh Gardner requests privacy in this matter and apologises to Monica Wright
Gardner also expressed gratitude to her former wife, Monica Wright, and asked her to apologise for the trouble and suffering she had caused. She has wished Wright luck and happiness in the future. She has requested privacy for the people concerned and is not prepared to discuss this issue in the media or in public.
"I am grateful for the time Monica and I shared and sorry for the pain this has caused. I wish her nothing but happiness and success in the future. I won't be making any further public comment on this matter at this time and ask that the privacy of those involved be respected," Gardner posted on her Instagram story.
Monica Wright accused Ashleigh Gardner of having an affair with an Australian teammate
Ashleigh Gardner and Monica Wright had got married in April 2025, after years of dating. However, the couple separated afterwards, after Gardner reportedly confessed to Wright that she had been cheating on her.
Wright revealed in a huge exposé that Gardner was having an affair with teammate Georgia Voll during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 that was played in India last year.
Wright had chastised Cricket Australia for failing to take adequate action and for failing to remove Gardner from the Australia women's team's vice-captaincy. According to Wright, Gardner's conduct needed to have had some repercussions, and Cricket Australia ought to have stripped the all-rounder of his vice-captaincy.
But amid the scandal, she received support from both Cricket Australia and her Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) team, the Sydney Sixers. She recently played for Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, which they won at Lord's against England.
