3 Players Delhi Capitals Can Sign As Abishek Porel’s Replacement For IPL 2027

On Tuesday, August 11, Delhi Capitals opener Abishek Porel was arrested by Kolkata police over rape allegations. The southpaw surrendered to police nearly a month after the West Bengal High Court’s arrest orders.

Earlier in June, a dental student lodged a complaint against the 23-year-old cricketer alleging that he engaged in a sexual relationship under the false promise of marriage and subjected her to assault and criminal intimidation.

Now, since Porel is in police custody, it is a huge blow for Delhi Capitals, who will be without an opener for IPL 2027. Therefore, this article will look at three replacements that DC can sign for IPL 2027.

1. Tushar Raheja

The first name that comes to mind is TNPL hero Tushar Raheja. The left-handed batter opens the innings for IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. The 25-year-old has shown promise in TNPL and has been one of the most consistent players in the league for the past two years. 

Talking about TNPL 2025, Raheja slammed 488 runs in 9 innings, averaging 61.00. Despite a stellar season, Raheja found no interest during the IPL 2026 mini-auction. In the ongoing edition, the youngster has again got off to a brilliant start, scoring 196 runs in 3 innings, which includes a century.

For the unversed, Delhi Capitals expressed their interest in Tushar Raheja in the past and even called up the 25-year-old for a trial. However, the management decided to skip bidding for him during IPL 2026, but he can be a great replacement for Abishek Porel.

2. Yash Dhull

Former Under-19 World Cup winner Yash Dhull is another talent whom Delhi Capitals can sign as Abishek Porel’s replacement. Notably, Dhull was previously part of Delhi Capitals’ camp in 2023 but went unsold in the IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Dhull is performing well in the Delhi Premier League and has shown consistency. The 23-year-old scored 435 runs in 8 innings during DPL 2025. In the ongoing edition, Dhull is the leading run-getter with 265 runs in 6 innings, averaging 53.00.

3. Amith Sathvik

Amith Sathvik is Tushar Raheja’s opening partner in TNPL 2026. He is doing well for himself and is not far away from an IPL call-up. The 23-year-old scored 340 runs in 9 innings in TNPL 2025. Talking about the ongoing season, Sathvik has already amassed 115 runs in 3 innings.

Hence, Delhi Capitals can look at Sathvik because he is a wicket-keeper batter, and his inclusion will strengthen Capitals wicket-keeping options as well.

Note: At the time of writing this article, there is no update on Porel's police custory. Hence, the replacements are only in case if the BCCI does not allow the southpaw to play in IPL 2027.
