Talismanic Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman was slapped with a two-match ban in the PSL 2026 after the match referee found him guilty of ball tampering.
Representing Lahore Qalandars in the PSL, Fakhar tried to alter the condition of the ball and faced severe consequences, with the PCB imposing a two-match ban for a level 3 offence.
As he continues to warm the bench for the Qalandars, Fakhar has finally opened up on his T20 retirement.
Fakhar Zaman's PSL journey takes drastic turn due to ball tampering saga
Renowned as one of the cleanest strikers of the ball, Fakhar Zaman was embroiled in a massive controversy when he was caught tampering with the ball during the high-voltage clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings.
As a result, the match referee charged him with a level 3 offence for violating Article 41.3 of the PSL playing conditions. Although Fakhar initially denied the charges and challenged the match referee's decision, the PCB found him guilty and banned him from two PSL matches.
Despite being a gifted stroke-player, Fakhar has had several setbacks, including those related to fitness, of late.
He was ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a knee injury and also missed some crucial international assignments, including a few games in the T20 World Cup 2026, due to fitness concerns.

Considering his age and fitness standards, it was speculated that Fakhar would take an extreme step and announce an immediate retirement from T20 cricket after getting punished by the PCB in the PSL.
Fakhar Zaman reveals retirement plans amid PSL ban
However, despite being at the twilight of his career and serving a humiliating two-match ban, Fakhar Zaman is still keen to represent Pakistan in white-ball formats.
The 35-year-old recently revealed that although he had decided to hang up his boots after Pakistan's Super 8 elimination from the T20 World Cup, he has changed his plans and would like to retire from the shortest format on a high note.
“After the World Cup, I had decided to retire from T20 cricket. However, I no longer intend to retire and want to finish my T20 career on a high note,” Fakhar was quoted as saying by Geo News.
Therefore, the batter still aims to enter the Pakistan squad for the 2027 World Cup and might well remain available for the T20 World Cup next year.
The swashbuckling southpaw lit up the T20 World Cup 2026, helping Pakistan register a consolation win over Sri Lanka.
After the Men in Green dropped Saim Ayub for poor form, Fakhar hammered 84 runs off just 42 balls in the final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka. His knock was a testament to his red-hot form, although he has suffered multiple injury setbacks in recent times.
When will Fakhar Zaman play next?
Fakhar Zaman was banned for two PSL 2026 matches and hence didn't take the field in Lahore Qalandars' recent clashes against Multan Sultans.
He will also warm the bench in their upcoming fixture against Islamabad United and might make his PSL 2026 comeback in the subsequent encounter against Peshawar Zalmi on April 11.
