England player joins PSL 2026 [Source: AFP]
The Karachi Kings franchise has roped in an explosive England opener, none other than team’s 2019 World Cup winning member Jason Roy into the squad. The cricketer was signed in as a replacement of outbound Muhammad Waseem.
It is worth noting that Waseem has to leave the Karachi Kings setup midway into PSL 2026 as he has been called up by the UAE for ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Nepal starting later this month. Apart from Waseem, the Karachi Kings franchise is also set to lose another UAE player in the form of fast bowler Khuzaima Tanveer.
Jason Roy returns to PSL after two years, to open with former rival
Jason Roy is set to make his return to the PSL stage after a gap of two years. The explosive English opener played 10 matches for the Quetta Gladiators back in PSL 2024, before missing the PSL 2025 season last year.

Having roped in by Karachi Kings for PSL 2026 as a replacement for Muhammad Waseem, Roy will now likely open the innings with team captain and former Australian rival David Warner.
The former England cricketer already holds a proficient track record in PSL matches. In 38 games between the 2016 and 2024 editions of the tournament, Jason Roy has minted 1,260 runs at a healthy average of 36 and with an explosive strike rate of 146.51.
Muhammad Waseem and Khuzaima bin Tanveer called up by UAE
Both of Karachi Kings’ primary UAE recruits, Muhammad Waseem and Khuzaima bin Tanveer, have been called up by their national side for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Nepal.
As per the ICC schedule, the UAE cricket team is set to face Oman and hosts Nepal twice each between April 25 and May 3. All matches will be hosted by Kirtipur. The UAE team will also be crossing paths with Nepal for a two-match T20I series at the same venue between April 20 and April 21.
Muhammad Waseem aggregated 86 runs for the Karachi Kings franchise in five innings so far in PSL 2026, at an underwhelming average of 17.20 and a lowly strike rate of 117.80. Khuzaima bin Tanveer, on the other hand, did not receive a single crack in the Karachi Kings playing XI throughout his stay in Pakistan.
Karachi Kings plagued by losing momentum, David Warner troubles
Karachi Kings, under the leadership of David Warner, started off the PSL 2026 season with three convincing wins in succession. However, the franchise has now been plagued with an unwanted losing momentum, having lost each of their last two matches to slip to number four on the eight-team points table.
Even captain David Warner seems to be struggling with an on-field injury and an off-field controversy. Earlier this month, the legendary former Australian opener was charged with drink driving in Sydney. The cricketer also skipped Karachi Kings’ previous game against the Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 11 owing to an injury, prompting Moeen Ali to take over captaincy.
The Karachi Kings franchise will now go up against the Islamabad United on April 16, with Jason Roy joining the side as a replacement.
