England fast bowlers continue to ruffle Team India’s strong batting line-up with some fierce short-pitched bowling in home conditions. After blowing away the ‘Men in Blue’ for just 76 in Trent Bridge earlier this week, English bowlers wrecked India’s famed top order once again, this time in the fourth T20I match in Bristol.
England great Nasser Hussain took note of Team India’s repeated struggles with bouncers, and indirectly urged them to learn the art of mastering short-pitched bowling threat from legendary opening batter Rohit Sharma.
The former England captain even praised Rohit, and recalled one of his epic centuries at the very same County Ground in Bristol from way back in July 2018.
Nasser Hussain shames Shreyas Iyer-led Team India
While commentating for the Sky Sports network during India’s fourth T20I of the five-match series against England in Bristol, former captain Nasser Hussain took note of the visitor’s repeated struggles with bouncers.

Hussain further praised former Indian T20I captain and legendary opener Rohit Sharma, and recalled his July 2018 epic against England at the very same venue.
The cricketer-turned-commentator said “Here since Old Trafford we are seeing Indian batters threatened by bouncers, back then there was Rohit Sharma who has 100 at Bristol, who use to pull them apart in stands.”
When Rohit Sharma humbled England in Bristol
Compatible to Nasser Hussain’s claims, Rohit Sharma humbled the Englishmen at the County Ground in Bristol back in July 2018, i.e., exactly eight years ago.
With both India and England taking on each other in the series-deciding third T20I, the visitors were tasked to chase down 199 runs for a series win. Despite losing Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul inside the powerplay, then opener Rohit Sharma plundered an electrifying 100* off just 56 balls to see India through with eight balls to spare.
The legendary opener launched five sixes and 11 scorching boundaries in the innings to be crowned ‘Player of the Match’ in India’s 2-1 series win.
The innings was also not a one-off success for Rohit Sharma in England, as the seasoned pro also clattered a match-winning ton in the subsequent first ODI in Nottingham. The following year, the right-hander rained down five hundreds and mounted 648 runs to top the run-scoring charts of the 2019 World Cup in English conditions.
Moreover, Sharma averaged a staggering 64.90 in 27 ODI innings in England, and 33.50 from 12 innings in T20Is.
Shreyas Iyer pushes India up to 158 with fighting 80*
In a must-win fourth T20I of the series against England in Bristol on July 9, India batted first and lost each of its top three batters for just 48 on the board. Captain Shreyas Iyer at number four held the remainder of the innings together by composing 80* unbeaten runs from just 49 balls with four fours and five huge sixes.
Iyer’s effort catapulted the Indian total to a fighting 158-7 in 20 overs after wicket-taking spells from Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue.
