A few weeks ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a major step by issuing a detailed advisory to all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.

Notably, the board warned teams about the dangers of “honey-trapping”, unauthorized movement, and possible security breaches during IPL 2026.

This advisory became important after several controversies surfaced during the tournament. These included Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder allegedly using a phone inside the dugout and the vaping controversy involving Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag.

BCCI Warned IPL Teams To Stay Alert

Because of these incidents, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia wrote to all ten IPL franchises on Thursday.

Notably, in a seven-page advisory sent to all franchises, Devajit Saikia asked IPL teams to stay careful in situations that could expose players and support staff to legal or reputational risks.

“The BCCI draws the attention of all Franchises to the well-documented risks of targeted compromise and honey-trapping that pervade high-profile sporting environments.

The possibility of incidents giving rise to serious legal allegations, including those under applicable laws on sexual misconduct, cannot be discounted. IPL franchise management must remain vigilant and proactive in mitigating such risks at all times,” Devajit Saikia said in the advisory.

Furthermore, the BCCI wanted franchises to ensure that all members followed the tournament rules strictly and avoided activities that could damage the image of the league.

IPL Chairman Clarifies No Such Incident Happened

However, IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal has now clarified that no “honey-trapping” issue has taken place during IPL 2026. Speaking in an exclusive interaction with TOI, Dhumal dismissed reports suggesting that such incidents had occurred during the tournament.

"There has been no issue as such with regard to honey-trapping or things like that, to my knowledge. This is a very clean tournament."

At the same time, the former BCCI Treasurer admitted that there had been a few minor issues during the season. He specifically mentioned the vaping controversy involving Riyan Parag.

"Yes, there have been some issues. For example, the Riyan Parag [vaping] incident, which we could have avoided. Barring that, I don't think there was any such incident," he added.

IPL Chairman Responds To BCCI Advisory

Meanwhile, when Arun Dhumal was specifically asked about BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia’s comments on honey trapping, the IPL chairman said he had no information regarding any such case.

"I am not privy to any such information either. He would be the best person to comment on that. But nothing of the sort has happened in this edition, as far as my understanding and knowledge go. I haven't heard his comment, so I would not want to comment on that."

IPL 2026 Reaches Exciting Final Stage

Meanwhile, IPL 2026 has turned out to be a thrilling season for fans. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have already secured their place in the final for the second consecutive season.

On the other hand, the winner of Qualifier 2 will face RCB in the final. The remaining contenders for the final spot are Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals.
