The recent IPL clash between Virat Kohli and Travis Head has become one of the most discussed moments of the season.
Social media has been flooded with debates, with some fans supporting Kohli while others have defended Head. Moreover, the intense exchange between the two players during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) grabbed massive attention online.
The incident took place during SRH’s dominant 55-run victory over RCB at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium last Saturday. Since then, fans have been questioning why the BCCI in India has not taken any disciplinary action against Kohli.
What Happened Between Virat Kohli And Travis Head?
The tension reportedly began during Shivang Kumar’s opening over when Venkatesh Iyer aggressively attacked the bowlers and found boundaries regularly.
During the over, Kohli appeared to gesture towards Travis Head, who was fielding at mid-wicket, seemingly suggesting that he should come in and bowl. Additionally, Kohli was also seen motioning Head away during another moment on the field.
Later, Head entered the bowling attack in the 18th over and immediately made an impact by dismissing RCB captain Rajat Patidar with only his second delivery.
However, the drama did not end there. During a field change later in the innings, Kohli and Head once again appeared to exchange words, further intensifying the situation.
Furthermore, the controversy continued after the match when a viral video surfaced online. The clip seemingly showed Kohli walking past Head without shaking hands after the game.
While Kohli warmly greeted players such as Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, fans noticed that Head was apparently ignored, which quickly became a major talking point across social media platforms.

Why Has BCCI Not Taken Any Action?
Despite the online criticism, the BCCI and IPL authorities are reportedly not planning to take any action against Virat Kohli. According to reports, handshakes are considered part of the “spirit of cricket” rather than a mandatory rule.
As per a source quoted by Times of India, even India and Pakistan players do not always exchange handshakes after matches. Therefore, failing to shake hands does not automatically result in disciplinary action.
"Even India and Pakistan players don’t always shake hands after matches,” a BCCI source said.
Previous Similar Incidents In Cricket
Interestingly, this is not the first time such an incident has happened in international cricket. During the Asia Cup 2025, India captain Suryakumar Yadav reportedly did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha after the toss and match.
Following India’s seven-wicket victory in Dubai, Indian players quickly left the field instead of participating in the customary handshake routine. Since then, India have maintained a no-handshake approach against Pakistan in certain situations.
Rajgeeta’s Take on the Matter (Conclusion)
Virat Kohli not shaking hands may appear disrespectful to many fans, and naturally, several people have criticised his behaviour. However, as the BCCI source clarified, shaking hands is ultimately a personal choice and not a compulsory regulation.
At the same time, cricket is a sport driven by passion, intensity and emotions. Heated moments on the field are common, especially in high-pressure tournaments like the IPL. Therefore, such incidents should ideally remain limited to the field rather than being unnecessarily escalated further.
