The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) endured a disappointing campaign in the IPL 2026 season, finishing seventh in the points table with six wins from 14 matches and one no-result. 

Although the three-time champions attempted a late comeback after remaining winless in their first six games, the turnaround fell short of securing a playoff spot. Despite having a star-packed squad, KKR ended their campaign with only 13 points and failed to match expectations throughout the tournament.

As the IPL 2026 season concludes, attention has shifted towards the performances of their biggest stars, especially Cameron Green, who arrived with massive expectations after becoming the franchise’s most expensive signing.

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green created history during the IPL 2026 auction after Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for INR 25.2 crore. The intense bidding battle involved Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, while KKR eventually secured the deal.

With that signing, Green surpassed Mitchell Starc’s previous overseas auction record of INR 24.75 crore, which KKR had paid during the IPL 2024 auction. In addition, Green will also receive INR 7.5 lakh per match as part of IPL rules. Therefore, his overall earnings for the season reached INR 26.25 crore.

How did Cameron Green Perform In IPL 2026?

Green experienced a difficult beginning to his debut season with KKR. In the opening game against Mumbai Indians, he scored 18 runs from 10 balls. Following that outing, he managed only two runs in the next match.

Gradually, the Australian all-rounder regained momentum and delivered several impactful performances with the bat. During the initial phase of the tournament, Cricket Australia prevented him from bowling due to a minor lower-back injury. As a result, KKR primarily used him as a batting option early in the competition.

With the bat, Green finished the season with 322 runs from 221 balls. Moreover, he maintained a strike rate of 145.70 alongside an average of 32.72. 

In bowling, Green featured in 10 innings and delivered 22 overs across the season. Furthermore, he picked up seven wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 10.64.

Cameron Green scored 322 runs during the IPL 2026 season. Based on his overall salary package of INR 26.25 crore, each run will effectively cost INR 8,15,217.39.

Will Cameron Green Be Released To IPL 2027 Auction Pool?

Cameron Green’s future with KKR remains uncertain ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. KKR viewed him as a possible long-term replacement for franchise legend Andre Russell. 

Even then, the management could consider releasing him in order to free up overseas slots and create additional flexibility within the salary structure.
