Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a sensational IPL 2026 campaign, finishing as the highest run-getter at the age of 15. However, irrespective of his age, calls for his India call-up have intensified ahead of the Ireland series.

Sooryavanshi, playing for Rajasthan Royals, scored 776 runs in 16 games at an average of 48.50 and a 237 strike rate. He scored a century and multiple 90+ scores in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 game.

While RR failed to qualify for the finals, Vaibhav grabbed eyeballs on the night of the final by grabbing a record number of season awards, including the Orange Cap.

That being said, after a historic season, discussions have already begun regarding his potential selections for the Ireland T20Is.

Former India wicketkeeper and ex-chief selector MSK Prasad believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has done more than enough to earn an opportunity at the highest level.

“He (Sooryavanshi) is not just a prodigy or a super talent. He is already among the best in the world in T20 cricket. He should be fast-tracked immediately into the Indian side. He should be picked for the Ireland series, which happens after the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka,” Prasad told PTI.

Prasad argued that there is little benefit in delaying Sooryavanshi's progression, especially after the batter proved the ability to dominate high-quality bowling attacks throughout the IPL.

The former selector also pointed to the teenager's inclusion in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, viewing it as another stepping stone toward a senior national team debut.

“I think it’s nicely poised for him to be drafted into the senior Indian team. I think he is going to flourish in the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka as well. See, there is no point holding him back. He is going to play for India soon, and he is going to play for a long time," he added.

According to Prasad, the traditional pathway of progressing through India A cricket remains important, but exceptional talent sometimes warrants accelerated promotion. He believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi falls firmly into that category.

“Playing India A and then playing for India is usually the norm, but playing high-pressure IPL among the best in the world is the best way to get into the Indian side. I think the selectors are also thinking along the same line. It’s just a matter of time before he will play for India and will play for a long time.”

India to face Ireland in June

Meanwhile, India will tour Ireland for a 2-game T20I series from June 26 to 28. Since the series is short, many young players are expected to make their debut, as the seniors are expected to be rested.

Hence, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged as the front-runner to get his debut cap. However, so far, BCCI has not given any hint that the 15-year-old could be fast-tracked anytime soon.

His future will surely depend on how he performs during the India A series against Sri Lanka. If Sooryavanshi manages to continue his dream run, he will definitely fall into the Ireland series conversation.
