Shaun Tait will likely depart from his role as Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach ahead of the upcoming six-match white-ball series against Australia.

A source close to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development roughly a week prior to the launch of the series.

Tait was appointed as Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach way back in May 2025. He has also had coaching experience with the Pakistan and Afghanistan men’s national cricket teams for a brief period.

Shaun Tait to quit Bangladesh team

Former Australia cricketer Shaun Tait might not re-join the Bangladesh team on June 3 for their preparation camp for the upcoming home series against Australia. The Bangladesh fast bowling coach has already informed the BCB of his intentions, as per a source close to the board.

While speaking on Cricbuzz, the BCB source stated that Tait is “not ready” to continue as Bangladesh fast bowling coach owing to personal reasons.

The source said, “I am not sure whether he (Tait) will come to join the team ahead of the Australia series or not, considering he is not ready to continue, citing family reasons.”

Shaun Tait joined the Bangladesh team as its fast-bowling coach in May 2025. As per the signing, the cricketer’s contract with the BCB runs up until the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup in South Africa next year.

It is worth noting that Tait is widely credited for the rise of tearaway young Bangladesh speedster Nahid Rana.

Why is Tait leaving Bangladesh coaching role?

While the BCB source has cited ‘personal reasons’ as the purpose behind Shaun Tait’s possible exit, the legendary former Australian fast bowler might be leaving the Bangladesh national team owing to a potential coaching gig in India.

Last month, several reports claimed that Tait has shown interest in becoming the Bengal cricket team’s coach in Indian domestic competitions. Apart from Tait, fellow former Australian paceman Ben Hilfenhaus also demonstrated his interest in the high-profile job, as reported by RevSportz.

As of now, neither Shaun Tait nor the BCB has made an official statement regarding his future with the Bangladesh national team.

Bangladesh to host Australia after Pakistan success

After defeating Pakistan at home in Test and ODI series, the Bangladesh cricket team will now host an understrength Australian side in six white-ball games. The two teams are scheduled to face each other in a series of three ODIs and three T20I matches.

While the ODIs will be hosted by the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka between June 9 and June 14, the T20Is will be played at the Bir Shrestho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chittagong between June 17 and June 21.

The three-match ODI series will form a crucial testing ground for both sides in their road towards the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup next year.

In a bid to prepare for the series, the Bangladesh team will assemble on June 3 this week for a training camp.
