Gujarat Titans - (Source: AFP)
IPL 2026 is over, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have successfully defended their title. Gujarat Titans once again came close and yet failed to lift their 2nd IPL trophy. The Shubman Gill-led side were not upto the mark and didn’t put a performance worthy of a final.
Talking about the match, Gujarat Titans lost their top-order early on, leaving the middle-order exposed, which has not usually been the case in IPL 2026. The middle-order failed to get going, and GT eventually put just 155 runs on the board.
In reply, RCB lost five wickets but won the match comfortably. Now, suddenly, the fans are raising fingers on the gaps in Gujarat Titans squad, which is why this article will shed light on players that Gujarat Titans should release ahead of IPL 2027.
1. Rahul Tewatia - 4 cr
The first and foremost player who should be shown the door is Rahul Tewatia. The four crore pick has not done anything significant over the years and fails to match the pace of the modern-day game. Shedding light on the numbers, Tewatia has amassed just 190 runs in 15 innings, averaging 27.14.

Even if we look at his numbers in previous seasons, the southpaw scored just 92 runs in 12 innings in IPL 2025. Therefore, GT can free up to 4 crores by releasing Rahul Tewatia.
2. Shahrukh Khan - 4cr
Shahukh Khan too released up to 4 crores for Gujarat Titans. The right-handed batter featured in just five innings this season and amassed only 43 runs, averaging 10.75. Now, Gujarat Titans already have Jason Holder in the team, and they can go for a better finisher than Shahrukh Khan at the next auction.
3. Sai Kishore - 2 cr
It was a frustrating campaign for Sai Kishore because he was not presented with enough opportunities. In IPL 2026, the off-spinner featured in two innings, where he picked up a solitary wicket. GT went ahead with the likes of Manav Suthar ahead of him, hinting that they don’t have Kishore in their scheme of things ahead of the next season.
Hence, Gujarat Titans can free up to 2 crores with Sai Kishore’s release.
4. Glenn Phillips - 2 crores
Another 2 crore release can be Glenn Phillips. The New Zealand star was a livewire in the field but failed to prove his mettle with the bat. The right-handed batter amassed just 67 runs in 5 innings, averaging 16.75 with the bat.
Also, Shubman Gill didn’t feel like giving the ball to Phillips, restricting his role just as a batter in IPL 2026.
5. Ishant Sharma - 75 lakhs
It feels like the right time for the 37-year-old to be released from the squad. Ishant Sharma didn’t play a single T20I in IPL 2026. Age is catching up with him, and his fitness, too, isn’t the finest. Hence, GT can free up to 75 lakhs.
