The game of cricket has reached a saturation point for most of the viewers. With an endless loop of cricket scheduling, many are tired of what can be called ‘watch fatigue’.
This has been caused by the packed calendars of cricket teams alongside domestic tournaments like the IPL, which have also taken a massive toll on players’ physical health.
Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League, has addressed this concern while rallying behind India head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Apparently, IPL 2026 is set to conclude on May 31, and many Indian players participating in the IPL will have to join the preparatory camp for the India vs Afghanistan series starting from June 6.
Lalit Modi Raises His Voice Against An 'Inhuman' Scheduling
Lalit Modi has strongly voiced his concerns over these inhuman schedules. Earlier, as per an NDTV report, Gautam Gambhir was unhappy with the intense fixture for cricketers.
After just a 23-day break from the South Africa series, the Indian men’s cricket team had to start their 2026 season on January 11 for the New Zealand tour of India, which continued till January 31.

From February 7, it was the T20 World Cup 2026, which concluded on March 8. March 28 saw the inauguration of IPL 2026, and with only a 20-day gap between major cricketing events, the break has now been significantly reduced, with the Afghanistan tour starting just 3-4 days after IPL’s conclusion.
Though India mostly relies on varied bench strength across different formats of the game, mentally as well as physically, it takes a huge toll on cricketers to regroup and prepare afresh for every back-to-back series and tournament.
Modi Publicly Accuses BCCI Overworking Players Like 'Mules'
Addressing this concern, Lalit Modi took to his official social media handle to accuse the Board of Control for Cricket in India of ‘killing’ the players.
“I agree. The BCCI is killing their players with the hectic scheduling. Guys stop this outrageous scheduling you are putting the boys thru. They need time with their families and JUST OFF TIME - You don’t need the money,” Modi wrote on his X handle.
Mentioning his prideful work, the IPL, Modi criticised the top brass of BCCI for overworking the players despite having a money-making machine like the IPL in their hands.
“I CREATED ANNUITY Revenue which the world envy’s. You will never have to worry about that sitting on those chairs. Do something good with your decisions for heavens sake. Welfare of the players is paramount. Don’t over work them - that’s why I have said the Board should have majority players on it,” Lalit Modi added.
Lalit Modi Offers Solution To The BCCI Problem
Modi also offered a generous solution to this ‘overworking’ problem by advising to hire a professional CEO for the management and working on the betterment of viewing experience rather than putting heavy baggage on the players' physical and mental limits.
“Get a professional CEO for heavens sake. Pay top salary and put Human Resources and SELF DEVELOPMENT OF PLAYERS AT the HEART of the BCCI ORGANISATION. Work on upgrading stadiums and giving world class fan experience rather work the Players like MULES. Let the organisation get a HEART & Soul” Modi concluded.
While the call for rest and refreshment was justified by the businessman, BCCI pocketed roughly INR 8,963 crore in annual revenue for FY 2025-26.
With the sport garnering so much green for India's apex cricket body, it is very unlikely that the money-making machines will be halted soon.
