In a big boost for Delhi Capitals, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is now ready to join the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Notably, the 36-year-old has received approval from Cricket Australia to travel and take part in the tournament.

Moreover, Starc is expected to be available for Delhi Capitals ahead of their important match against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, May 1.

Mitchell Starc overcomes shoulder and elbow Issues

It is important to note that Mitchell Starc has successfully recovered from his shoulder and elbow problems, as confirmed by Cricket Australia.

Earlier, there were concerns regarding his fitness, which delayed his participation in the tournament. However, after proper rest and recovery, he has now been cleared to return to competitive cricket.

Initially, Starc was among the senior Australian fast bowlers who were held back at the start of the tournament. His participation depended on how well he progressed through recovery and fitness programs.

In addition, workload management played a major role in this decision. Starc had a very busy schedule earlier, as he played all five Ashes Test matches. Following that, he also participated in the later stages of the Big Bash League (BBL 2025-26) . This continuous cricket placed a lot of physical demand on him.

The 36-year-old has not played any competitive match since late January. During the Ashes series, he delivered an outstanding performance and was named Player of the Series. He took 31 wickets and bowled more than 150 overs, which clearly shows the level of effort he put in. After that, he played five matches for Sydney Sixers and helped them reach the final.

During one of those matches, the Australian legend suffered a fall while attempting to catch the ball, which affected his shoulder and elbow. After taking a break in February, he still felt some discomfort when he resumed bowling. This situation further delayed his travel to India.

Mitchell Starc completes a full week of pain-free bowling

Meanwhile, recent updates indicate that Starc has completed a full week of pain-free bowling in Sydney.

Mitchell Starc is now set to travel to India and will spend some time adjusting to the conditions. Furthermore, he will gradually increase his bowling intensity before returning to match action. If everything goes smoothly, he is likely to play in the May 1 game and continue for the rest of the season.

Big boost for Delhi Capitals

At present, Delhi Capitals are placed fifth on the IPL points table, with three wins and three losses. Notably, their season has been mixed so far. However, the team’s pace attack has been performing well, with players like Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar, and T Natarajan contributing effectively.

With Mitchell Starc’s expected return, the team may consider changes in the playing lineup. His experience and skill can bring a new edge to the squad. As a result, one of the current players, possibly Pathum Nissanka, might be left out to maintain team balance.
