Pakistan Test captain, Babar Azam, has insisted that Mohammad Yousuf, the former cricketer, has not approached him for giving batting tips, but if he does message, the red-ball captain will be open to learning from him.
The development comes after Yousuf took to his social media account and reckoned that Babar needs a specialised batting coach, someone who can work on his technique, and he is ready to help the struggling batter.
Babar willing to learn from Mohammad Yosuf
Pakistan is set to take on Sri Lanka in the first Test match of the series on Monday, and ahead of the contest, the red-ball captain, Babar, attended the pre-game press conference.
The right-handed batter was asked about Mohammad Yousuf’s comments on his batting technique, and Babar stated that he is willing to learn from Yousuf, provided he approaches him, rather than speaking on social media.
"We haven't been in contact. He has reached out to people on social media, but not to me. If he does get in touch with me, I would certainly take the opportunity to learn from him," Babar said in the press-conference.
For reference, Yousuf earlier stated:
"I don't think Babar Azam should be playing first-class cricket until he fixes his technical issues through specialised coaching. Struggling in domestic cricket could further harm his confidence and career. Send him to an academy in England or Australia.
"He is still Pakistan's top player, and with the right guidance and a little effort, he can return to his best. I said this four years ago, and nobody listened. Please listen now," he added.
The weakness in Babar's technique which Yousuf wants to correct
Once known as the most complete Pakistan batter, glitches have arrived in Babar’s batting technique and it has derailed his promising career.
Firstly, he gets into a tangle with the short-pitched deliveries, and it was first exploited by Jofra Archer in the England Test series. The problem persisted in the recently concluded tri-nation matches against Sri Lanka and England.
Moreover, his second glaring weakness has been the incoming deliveries, and Babar often gets stuck in the crease and gets trapped LBW. Hence, Yousuf, one of the finest Pakistan batters ever, wants to work on Babar’s technique.
