Babar Azam endured his second failure of the match to cap a forgettable comeback Test for himself against England. After missing the series-opener last week owing to an injury, the Pakistan skipper was included in the team’s playing XI for the second Test at Lord’s at an expense of Agha Salman.
Just a couple of days after getting humbled by Josh Tongue for just eight runs on Day 2, the legendary Pakistan batter has now been left embarrassed by England’s speed demon Jofra Archer.

The Pakistan cricket team has been tasked to chase down 389 runs with nearly two full days remaining to win the second Test of the three-match series.
Trailing 0-1 on the tour, the visitors lost both, Azan Awais and number three Abdullah Shafique to crash to 7-2 at the end of the first five overs of the decisive innings.

Batting at number four, comeback captain Babar Azam struck one boundary but the cricketer failed to go beyond six runs as he was left embarrassed by a brutal short delivery from Jofra Archer.
Babar completely failed to read Jofra’s bounce at awkward chest height. Attempting a pull shot, the 31-year-old ended up fending at the ball but only managed to get a top edge on to the helmet, before Jordan Cox safely grabbed a simple catch at third slip.
Babar Azam caps comeback Test on a dismal note, fails pre-match promise
Babar Azam recently made his return to the Pakistan playing XI for the second Test at Lord’s in London after seemingly recovering from his hand injury. The cricketer was forced to miss the series-opener at Headingley in Leeds earlier this month, prompting the Pakistan team management to appoint Salman Agha as interim skipper.
Vowing a “stronger performance” from the Pakistan team at the pre-match press conference, Babar was dismissed for just eight runs off 10 balls by Josh Tongue as the visitors folded up for just 110 in their first innings on Day 2.
Left to chase 389, the experienced middle-order batter once again failed to steer Pakistan to recovery in the second innings on Day 2 after the cricketer arrived to the crease at a precarious 7-2.
Finishing the Lord’s Test with just 14 runs to his name across both innings, Babar’s promise of a “stronger performance” fell flat as Pakistan inches closer to a possible 0-2 deficit.
Babar Azam extends century-less streak in Test cricket
Apart from failing to uphold his pre-match promise, Babar Azam also extended his century-less streak in Test cricket following his twin failures at Lord’s in London.
With nine hundreds to his name, the cricketer last reached the triple-digit score in Tests for Pakistan way back in December 2022 in a high-scoring match against New Zealand in Karachi.
Inching close to four years since last scoring a Test century, Babar has since gone 38 innings without registering a single triple-digit knock in the format. In this period, the legendary right-hander has aggregated just 1,057 runs at a dismal average of 29.36 with seven fifties.
