Cheteshwar Pujara makes IPL 2027 predictions [Source: AFP]
The deadline for the IPL 2027 retention window will conclude on November 17 this month. A handful of franchises have already swapped certain players with each other over the past few weeks in light of the trading window.
Just earlier this week, the CSK and SRH franchises initiated an epic four-player trade before the IPL 2027 auction. As we inch closer to the retention window deadline, former India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has made some bold predictions about the coming days.
Cheteshwar Pujara believes Cameron Green, Nicholas Pooran will be released before auction
While speaking on the Star Sports network, Cheteshwar Pujara claimed that Cameron Green and Nicholas Pooran will both be released by their respective franchises ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.
The two overseas cricketers fetched more than Rs. 20 crores each, and they will become among the most high-profile releases this year, if Pujara’s predictions are true.
Cameron Green is the most expensive overseas cricketer to be nabbed by an IPL franchise when he was roped in by the KKR. Nicholas Pooran, meanwhile, was brought by the LSG for Rs. 21 crores.
According to Pujara, the KKR franchise will get back Green at the IPL 2027 auction this year at a lower price. He said, “They can still get him back at the auction.”
Among other releases, the former Indian cricketer claimed that the CSK franchise will either let go of Matt Henry or Matthew Short. Additionally, the Gujarat Titans will supposedly release either of their two underperforming players, Rahul Tewatia or Shahrukh Khan.
He said, “For CSK, it can be either Matthew Short or Matt Henry. I think one of them can be released. For GT, they might have to look between Rahul Tewatia or Shahrukh Khan because both of them have not performed up to the expectations.”
Cheteshwar Pujara also suggested that Mumbai Indians could release its captain and senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Compatible to his claims, Pandya is reportedly a subject of a possible Mumbai Indians-Punjab Kings trade involving seasoned fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.
RCB to not release any player, believes Pujara
The legendary Indian batter further stated that two-time defending champions RCB will not release any player.
Pujara believes that since the RCB franchise won the IPL 2025 and IPL 2026 titles in the last two seasons, they have little incentive to release any cricketer before the IPL 2027 auction.
He explained, “I don’t think they will release any player because they have won the latest championship.”
The IPL 2027 auction is set to be held in December next month in Goa. As of now, it remains to be seen how many of Cheteshwar Pujara’s predictions will turn out to be true when the IPL 2027 retention deadline concludes on November 17.
