In a rare moment in PSL 2026, Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam and Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne joined hands to promote world peace amid the Iran-USA war-like conflict.

However, the gesture used to convey the message was unusual, and it led to a big social media uproar. Fans started debating about what the PSL management thought before the move.

Babar Azam releases a white dove in PSL 2026

It all began at the toss ceremony between Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen. Babar Azam and Marnus Labuschagne had gathered to represent their respective teams.

However, PSL CEO Salman Naseer was also present at the toss for a special moment. The management had decided to convey Pakistan’s commitment towards world peace amid the Iran-USA war.

To convey that message, Salman Naseer, Babar Azam and Marnus Labuschagne decided to release a white dove. The bird was used as a symbol of peace.

However, the unusual gesture left the fans confused. Social media users believed that PSL could have avoided getting a bird involved to convey their message and maybe used some other harmless methods.

PSL’s absurd stand for world peace

In the aftermath of the fuel crisis in Pakistan, PSL 2026 is being played behind closed doors with empty stands. However, Islamabad United owner Ali Naqvi had an absurd explanation.

He suggested that restrictions on crowd attendance were tied to heightened security and logistical demands as Islamabad was reportedly being used for sensitive international discussions, including ceasefire-related engagements.

Framing it as a matter of national priority, he implied that Pakistan had prioritised global peace efforts over allowing fans into stadiums.

However, his remarks contradicted the official stance of the PCB. Earlier, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had clearly stated that the decision to hold matches without crowds was driven by a domestic fuel crisis, which led to government advisories limiting public movement across the country.

PSL 2026 is struggling with relevance

Every year, PSL faces serious issues that put its relevance into question. This year, they introduced a player auction and added two new teams. However, the revenue model is still flawed and is leading to losses.

Player retention remains a persistent issue as well, with many international and even domestic stars prioritising IPL contracts due to significantly higher earnings and greater visibility on the global stage.

Now, this year, they tried to challenge the IPL by overlapping schedules. However, even before the PSL 2026 season began, the tournament was hit by a fuel crisis in Pakistan.

Stadiums were closed, and the entire season is now being carried out in empty stands. This will again lead to serious losses, which will hamper PSL’s revenue model in the future.
