The Wankhede Stadium is all set to host a big ceremony for former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri, as he will have a stand named after him at the iconic venue. However, the ceremony will now also include Suryakumar Yadav.
Suryakumar is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 season. So far, Mumbai have lost 2 games out of 3 played and slipped to seventh position on the points table.
Suryakumar Yadav to attend Ravi Shastri’s Wankhede ceremony
Meanwhile, the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is set to witness a landmark evening on April 8 as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to honour former cricketer Ravi Shastri.
The Level 1 stand beneath the press box will officially be named the “Ravi Shastri Stand", recognising his immense contributions to the game as a player, captain and coach.
However, the event will also mark the attendance of Suryakumar Yadav. According to Devendra Pandey, SKY will be felicitated by Maharashtra CM Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his contribution as captain in India’s success at the T20 World Cup 2026.
Under Yadav’s captaincy, India lifted the title by beating New Zealand in a one-sided final. That marked the men in blue’s second consecutive T20 World Cup title win.
While Suryakumar Yadav struggled with his form as a batter, his captaincy was widely praised by fans and critics.

MCA to honour cricket greats
Ravi Shastri will be the chief personality of the upcoming event, as he is getting a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium.
Shastri, who played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for India, also oversaw one of the most successful phases in Indian Test cricket as head coach, including historic series wins in Australia.
Along with Shastri and Suryakumar Yadav, the MCA will pay tribute to other Mumbai stalwarts by dedicating stadium gates in their honour. Gate No. 3 will be named after Dilip Sardesai, while Gate No. 5 and Gate No. 6 will commemorate Diana Edulji and Eknath Solkar, respectively.
The MCA had earlier honoured Rohit Sharma at the venue, and this latest initiative further reinforces its commitment to celebrating those who have shaped the game.
Suryakumar and Hardik heartbroken after MI’s loss
Mumbai Indians endured a tough night in the IPL 2026 as they were comprehensively beaten by Rajasthan Royals in a rain-curtailed encounter in Guwahati.
The defeat not only dented their momentum but also left captain Hardik Pandya and senior batter Suryakumar Yadav visibly shaken inside the dressing room.
The match was reduced to 11 overs per side due to rain. However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal turned into a one-sided affair with an 80-run partnership in just four overs.
Riding on that explosive start, Rajasthan Royals piled up a daunting 150/3. In response, the Mumbai Indians never found rhythm, losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually limping to 123/9.
