Thanks to the Indian Premier League (IPL), many youngsters have got the opportunity to represent the Indian national team in the Twenty20 Internationals. But how many have been able to make a mark even before their maiden match wearing the India blues?
Only one - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi!
Indian prodigy batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is only a step away from making his India debut. Courtesy of his scintillating IPL 2026, the fifteen-year-old batting sensation was named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
On the verge of becoming the youngest player to represent India in T20Is, Sooryavanshi was once again in the headlines.
On Tuesday, videos went viral showcasing him receiving his official senior team playing kit before his much-anticipated India debut.
That being said, here is a list of the top 5 youngest players to represent India in T20Is.
5) Suresh Raina - 20 years 4 days
Suresh Raina, also known as Mr IPL, made his T20 debut for India on December 1, 2006, against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. In his very first T20 International, he batted at number four and scored 3 runs off 8 deliveries.

In his lucrative career, Raina has amassed multiple records, including being the first Indian to score a century in international T20 cricket on May 2, 2010. Raina registered his maiden hundred in the format against South Africa in the 2010 T20 World Cup held in the West Indies.
4) Rahul Chahar - 20 years 2 days
Rajasthan’s Rahul Chahar made his T20I debut only 2 days after turning 20 on August 6, 2019, against the West Indies at Providence Stadium.
Aged exactly 20 years and 2 days, the young leg-spinner was fast-tracked into the national squad following an impressive title-winning season with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
His T20I debut was an emotional family affair as well, as he made his first appearance for India alongside his cousin, Deepak Chahar.
3) Ishant Sharma - 19 years 152 days
On February 1, 2008, a 6 feet 4 inches-tall pacer from Delhi, Ishant Sharma, played his maiden T20I for India. At the time of his debut, he was exactly 19 years and 152 days old, making him the third-youngest to represent India in T20Is.
2) Rishabh Pant - 19 years 120 days
Rishabh Pant’s debut on February 1, 2017, for the Indian T20 International team added his name to an array of stars that have made a mark for themselves in all formats.
At 19 years and 120 days, he broke Ishant Sharma's record to become the then-youngest-ever player to represent India in a T20I match.
1) Washington Sundar - 18 years 80 days
Making his debut on December 24, 2017, Washington Sundar ranks at the top of the list of youngest players to represent India in T20Is.
Following in the footsteps of senior Tamil Nadu teammate R Ashwin, Sundar rapidly rose to prominence after making his India debut at 18 years and 80 days old.
The youngster caught the attention of cricket fans when he replaced an injured Ashwin at Rising Pune Supergiants.
