On Thursday, during the LSG vs RCB IPL 2026 clash, the veteran Indian pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, achieved another milestone in the Indian Premier League. The RCB pacer has become the first fast bowler in IPL history to play 200 matches, adding yet another remarkable achievement to his illustrious T20 career.

Even at the age of 36, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has continued his superb form in the league, while currently leading the IPL 2026 Purple Cap, along with CSK’s Anshul Kamboj, with 17 wickets to his name.

Moreover, earlier this season, on April 5, 2026, Bhuvneshwar became the first seamer, and only the second player overall after Yuzvendra Chahal, to claim 200 IPL wickets.

In the same context, let’s take a look at the list of names that have played 200 or more matches in the coveted league.

A glance at "Swing King's" resurgence in IPL

Making his IPL debut back in 2011 for Pune Warriors, Bhuvneshwar has been a prominent name in the league for over 15 years. However, the Indian pacer, who has been out of the Indian T20I team since 2022, has revived memories of his peak years with a stunning run in the ongoing IPL 2026.

During the Delhi Capitals versus RCB clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the veteran pacer produced a remarkable powerplay spell that triggered a wave of nostalgia, even bringing back the viral phrase, “2026 is the new 2016.”

It is worth noting that the years 2018 to 2024 marked a different phase, marred by age, injuries, and the evolution of T20 batting. The “Swing King” appeared to be fading.

Nonetheless, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him for Rs 10.75 crore ahead of the 2025 season.

Since then, Bhuvneshwar has subtly rebuilt his game and is once again at his peak. Across 2025 and 2026, he has taken 31 wickets in 22 matches, rediscovering his effectiveness in both the powerplay and death overs.

Dhoni, Kohli, Sharma: Meet the players with the most IPL appearances

Since its inception in 2008, IPL has seen many players come and go; however, names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma still remain at the centre in the context of the IPL’s legacy.

The trio stand among the players who have played the most matches in the coveted league.

Virat Kohli - 277 Matches*

On the same day as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Virat Kohli also joins Rohit Sharma with the second most IPL appearances. Before today, Kohli had played 276 matches and is now playing his 277th.

The former RCB skipper and modern-day batting great, Kohli, is the only player in the entire IPL history to play for one franchise team since the tournament’s first edition in 2008.

Rohit Sharma - 277 Matches

Famously known as “Mumbaicha Raja” (Mumbai’s king), Rohit Sharma has dominated the list for both most successful batters and captains in the tournament’s history.

Leading from the front, he guided MI to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020), building a legacy defined by consistency and big-match temperament and making the franchise one of the most successful teams in the league.

MS Dhoni - 278 Matches

One of the most successful captains in the history of cricket, MS Dhoni is not only the face of his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, but also for the league.

Notably, the former CSK skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter is also one of the few players still active in the IPL since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2008.
