The IPL 2026 season has been heavily marred by controversies, ranging from on-field conduct breaches to off-field disciplinary issues, which have relatively stained the stature of the Indian Premier League in the eyes of fans and followers. In the same context, the BCCI is all set to take strict action to protect the sanctity of the league.

Breaking the silence on the matter, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, on Thursday, told ANI that the apex governing body of the IPL is preparing an advisory, aimed at curbing “anomalies and irregularities” that have surfaced during the ongoing season, stressing that several incidents are in direct violation of the Board’s anti-corruption protocols.

Devajit Saikia warns to trace down the culprits to save IPL’s solemnity

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has come down heavily on reports of “unauthorised persons” accompanying IPL teams and players, asserting that the Board is not “sitting idle” and will take stringent action against violators.

It is worth noting that in the ongoing edition, several cricketers, including Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya and Punjab Kings’ pacer Arshdeep Singh, have been seen spending time with their girlfriends during matches and while travelling

On top of that, the Sameer Rizvi and Yesha Sagar controversy amid the IPL 2026 has also brought objections to the league. The case escalated when a senior journalist, Abhishek Tripathi, posted a claim that an Uttar Pradesh cricket player was seeing a female anchor from a domestic league, which sparked the scandal.

Social media sites were inundated with rumours that Rizvi and Yesha were the people responsible for the post. However, it's crucial to remember that Rizvi hasn't formally accepted these assertions.

BCCI to impose strict IPL rules after Sameer Rizvi-Yesha Sagar controversy?

Thus, this trend has sparked discussions within the BCCI, which is now considering stricter regulations.

"This time, we have observed various anomalies and irregularities in the conduct of certain franchises and players. So BCCI and IPL are preparing an advisory, and we are going to release that advisory this evening because we have noticed that there are a lot of unauthorised persons who are moving along with the team members."

"And some people who are unauthorised are coming to the hotels and to the players' rooms or the team officials' room, which is totally against our anti-corruption protocols,” stated Saikia.

BCCI reprimands IPL Owners publicly

The BCCI official, Saikia, also stressed that the board had observed team owners and officials entering restricted areas during matches and during team movements.

“We have also seen that certain team owners and officials are mingling with players in areas where it is not allowed. So there are certain protocols we have to follow, and we have seen there are some dilutions.”

It is anticipated that Saikia’s emphasis is on LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s over-involvement during the games. Goenka has faced criticism for intense, public on-field discussions with players, including high-profile, viral conversations with former captain KL Rahul (IPL 2024) and Rishabh Pant (IPL 2026).
