Fans of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been eagerly waiting for the return of MS Dhoni, who has not played a single match in IPL 2026. In fact, some of the Thala fans have become so desperate that they want MS Dhoni to retire from IPL.
The thought of MS Dhoni IPL retirement came among CSK fans to eliminate the expectations, keeping in mind that they don’t want to get disheartened every time they visit the stadium or turn on the television with a slim hope of seeing him in action.
Now, the time will tell whether Dhoni, now at the age of 44, will hang up his boots at the end of IPL 2026.
Michael Clarke Speaks On MS Dhoni IPL Retirement
Former Australian captain Michael Clarke, who helped his side win the famous ODI World Cup in 2015, made a statement for CSK fans regarding their thoughts on MS Dhoni.
Clarke addressed the importance of Dhoni in CSK ever since the IPL began in 2008, and highlighted the fact of how exactly he made CSK famous along with helping them win five IPL titles.
“MS Dhoni is CSK. If you go watch a CSK game, everyone has the No. 7 yellow jersey on. In terms of sponsors coming to the team, every sponsor would want MS Dhoni to be part of that team. He is that significant in India and CSK,” Clarke said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.

“Age should not matter, though. No one can convince me that there is a better keeper than MS Dhoni. He's still the best wicketkeeper in T20s. He is also one of a kind. So people need to be careful in wishing him to retire,” he added.
Furthermore, Clarke raised doubts about MS Dhoni sitting in the CSK dugout once he retires from the IPL.
“When he retires, we probably won't see him involved in cricket. He certainly won't commentate. I doubt he will stay on as a mentor with CSK. I can't imagine him going into coaching,” Clarke concluded.
What Happened To MS Dhoni?
Dhoni was supposed to be available for CSK from the start of IPL 2026. He was seen batting in the nets, as well as keeping behind the stumps.
However, an unfortunate calf injury just before the season began ruled him out of the first half of IPL 2026, and it only worsened as the tournament progressed. Nowadays, he has not been travelling with the CSK squad either, leaving his ardent fans worldwide sad.
MS Dhoni IPL Retirement: Is It On The Cards?
If one thinks practically, it should be the season when Dhoni retires from all forms of cricket. He retired playing for India long ago, on August 15, 2020, and has only been seen in action since then when the IPL took place.
However, keeping in mind that he is 44 now and his body does not permit him to be fit immediately, this should be the end of MS Dhoni in the IPL.
