The Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Chennai Super Kings clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5 saw veteran India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, representing RCB, complete 200 wickets in the IPL amid the batting madness.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s feat came after he successfully picked up a wicket against CSK during their chase, taking his tally from 199 to 200. In the process, he also created a remarkable record, becoming only the second bowler in IPL history to achieve the 200-wicket milestone and the first fast bowler in the tournament’s history to pick his 200th.
Bhuvneshwar Etches Epic IPL Feat With RCB
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been adorned with multiple bowling feats in his IPL career, has been a consistent wicket-taker, representing RCB for the second time in this edition.
Most of his stint was with Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2014 to 2024 before Bengaluru roped him in ahead of the IPL 2025 edition for INR 10.75 crore.
Nevertheless, his 200th wicket was a memorable one on a Chinnaswamy pitch that slowed down batting for Chennai in the second half of the game.
Kumar dismissed Ayush Mhatre, who came in after the dismissal of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, while chasing a massive target set by RCB.
During the 251-run chase, Mhatre was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar on the second ball of his first over, where a 134.4 km/h hard-length delivery outside off stump forced the batter into a mistimed shot while attempting to muscle it over midwicket.
The ball took a top edge and flew up, where Rajat Patidar completed the catch at mid off to seal Bhuvneshwar’s 200th wicket at RCB’s fortress.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar Becomes First Pace Bowler To Reach 200-Wicket Milestone
Bhuvneshwar’s spell stands as a tribute to fast bowling, as he became the first fast bowler to take 200 wickets in the tournament’s history. At 36, the swing bowler has created a record that will stand strong, with retired Dwayne Bravo and Jasprit Bumrah trailing him at 183 wickets, requiring 17 more to match his tally.

Meanwhile, Kumar also became only the second bowler to achieve the 200-wicket milestone; the first remains Yuzvendra Chahal, who currently represents Punjab Kings and has taken 224 wickets from 176 matches at an economy rate of 7.95.
Bhuvneshwar, however, boasts a lower economy rate, reaching 200 wickets from 192 matches, conceding 5461 runs in 709 overs. Sunil Narine follows with 193 wickets, alongside the now-retired Piyush Chawla with 192.

It is also important to note that while Kumar reached the milestone, he is not currently RCB’s leading bowler in the squad. Jacob Duffy leads the wicket charts for RCB in IPL 2026 with five wickets, followed by Romario Shepherd with three, and then Bhuvneshwar Kumar after Mhatre’s wicket.
Tim David Power Helps RCB Muscle To 250!
As for the match, RCB posted a massive total of 250 against Chennai Super Kings, with power-hitter Tim David dominating Jamie Overton and other CSK bowlers. Overton’s over proved particularly expensive, conceding 30 runs as David smashed four sixes and a boundary.
Earlier in the innings, Phil Salt scored 46 off 31 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal contributed 50 off 29 balls. However, it was Tim David’s explosive 70 off 25 balls at a strike rate of 280.00 that powered RCB to a mammoth total.
Among CSK bowlers, only Anshul Kamboj, Jamie Overton, and Shivam Dube managed to take wickets, while Kamboj was the most expensive, conceding 52 runs in his spell.
