Yashasvi Jaiswal is rarely a quiet presence on a cricket field. The young Indian opener plays with an unmistakable edge, and over the last couple of years, that competitive streak has repeatedly spilt into verbal battles with opposition players.

That side of Jaiswal was on full display again on Sunday, August 23, when India faced Sri Lanka in the second and final Test at Colombo. The incident also prompted a visibly angry reaction from India head coach Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room.

This was hardly the first time Yashasvi Jaiswal has found himself in a fiery battle. From a tense relationship with Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane to exchanges with Mitchell Starc and others, the left-hander has built quite a collection of on-field confrontations.

Here is a look at some of the biggest fights and fiery exchanges involving Jaiswal.

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Asitha Fernando

The latest and most explosive incident came during the second Test between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo on August 23. Jaiswal had made a brisk 45 from 53 balls before Asitha Fernando delivered a beauty on the last ball of the 17th over. The Sri Lankan pacer beat Jaiswal's defence and sent his off stump flying.

Fernando celebrated the prized wicket with plenty of emotion, while Jaiswal began walking back towards the dressing room. However, words were exchanged between the two players, prompting Jaiswal to turn around and confront the Sri Lankan fast bowler.

The argument quickly intensified and the two players made physical contact before teammates stepped in and separated them. The cameras then caught Gambhir inside the Indian dressing room looking visibly furious as the confrontation unfolded.

2) Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Ajinkya Rahane

This was different from Jaiswal's international confrontations because it reportedly stemmed from his time in Mumbai cricket. Jaiswal's decision to leave Mumbai and move to Goa ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season came as a major surprise.

While Jaiswal himself spoke about embracing a new leadership opportunity, reports suggested that his relationship with the Mumbai setup had deteriorated.

A major part of the reported friction involved Ajinkya Rahane. The reported tension between the two began in 2022 when Rahane, then involved with the West Zone side, sent Jaiswal off the field for excessive sledging.

Reports later claimed there was further friction over Jaiswal's shot selection and his approach during Mumbai matches. One report also alleged that Jaiswal even kicked Rahane's kitbag after an argument.

The reported relationship eventually became "untenable", according to claims attributed to people close to the situation.

3) Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Mitchell Starc

Jaiswal's exchange with Mitchell Starc during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy became one of the most memorable examples of the youngster refusing to back down against one of the world's fastest bowlers.

The incident happened in Perth when Jaiswal cheekily remarked to Starc after facing one of his deliveries, "It's coming too slow."

The comment instantly became a talking point because Yashasvi Jaiswal had essentially challenged the pace of Australia's premier left-arm fast bowler.

Starc later revealed that he had not actually heard Jaiswal's "too slow" comment at the time. According to Starc, he had asked Jaiswal about an earlier flick shot, which led to the Indian batter laughing.

The exchange nevertheless became a major talking point after footage of the incident circulated. Starc eventually got his response in Adelaide, dismissing Jaiswal for a golden duck with the first ball of India's innings.

4) Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Sam Konstas

The Jaiswal-Sam Konstas rivalry was another fascinating battle of personalities during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The tension developed during the Melbourne Test, where the teenage Australian debutant was positioned close to the bat and kept up a steady stream of chatter around Jaiswal.

The Indian opener eventually snapped back. Jaiswal told Konstas to "shut up" and "do your job" during the exchange. Konstas continued to remain involved in the contest from his close fielding position.

Jaiswal then struck a Nathan Lyon delivery towards silly point, with the ball hitting Konstas. In Sydney, Jaiswal later turned the tables when Konstas struggled to reproduce his earlier attacking strokeplay. Yashasvi Jaiswal was heard mocking the youngster with, "Oye Konstas, shot nahi lag raha kya?"

The battle eventually ended with Jaiswal taking the catch that dismissed Konstas off Mohammed Siraj. Jaiswal later revealed that Rohit Sharma had even scolded him over the escalating exchanges.

5) Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Ben Stokes

Yashasvi Jaiswal's confrontation with Ben Stokes at Edgbaston in July 2025 was another classic case of two highly competitive cricketers refusing to give an inch.

The exchange happened during India's first innings of the second Test against England. Jaiswal was batting brilliantly and eventually scored 87 off 107 balls. But before his dismissal, a quick single off Stokes' bowling sparked a verbal exchange between the two.

Stokes chirped at Jaiswal after the single. Jaiswal responded sharply, telling the England captain, "You don't want to hear from me, come on."

The verbal battle continued briefly before the players returned to their respective positions. Stokes eventually had the final say, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal shortly before tea.

The dismissal made the moment even more dramatic as Stokes celebrated aggressively after removing the Indian opener.
