On Sunday, August 23, India captain Shubman Gill walked to bat in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka when India were reduced to 66/2. The India captain had a poor 1st Test, but he turned things around in the ongoing fixture.
Shubman Gill scored a brilliant fifty but returned to the pavilion right after the milestone. The India captain failed to convert his fifty into a hundred but still achieved a massive feat that no one before him had achieved.
Shubman Gill Completes 1000 Runs in WTC Cycle
With the fifty, Gill completed 1000 runs as India captain in the WTC cycle. Interestingly, Gill achieved this feat in a single edition and has become the 1st ever India captain to do so. Not even Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have achieved this feat.
Gill took over captaincy when India visited England for a five-match Test series in 2025. Gill had a brilliant series, scoring 754 runs, including a double century. Following that series, Gill captained India against West Indies and now Sri Lanka. He achieved the feat in his 10th match as India captain.
