The International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings are a system used to evaluate and rank the performances of international cricket teams and players.
These rankings are updated regularly to reflect recent performances in various formats of the game, including Test matches, One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The ICC calculates these rankings using a points-based system that considers factors such as runs scored, the quality of the opposition, and match conditions. Recent performances are weighted more heavily to ensure the rankings reflect the current form.
Indian batters dominate ICC ODI Rankings
On July 22, 2026, the Indian batting trio Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill all made up ground in the latest ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings after their performances in the recently concluded 3-match series against England.
Gill, who replaced Rohit as the Indian ODI captain in October 2025, managed 188 runs across the three matches to close within one rating point of Daryl Mitchell (802 Rating Points) at the top, while Kohli (767 Points) and Rohit (758 Points) are also within striking distance.

5) Sourav Ganguly: 844 points vs South Africa on March 17, 2000
Famously nicknamed ‘Dada’, Sourav Ganguly captained India in the 4th ODI against South Africa at Vadodara, scoring 87 runs off 84 balls and helping India win by 4 wickets with 1 ball remaining to secure the series.

Following his stellar performance against South Africa, he achieved his career-best ICC ODI batting ranking of 844 points. This milestone remains one of the highest historical ODI ratings attained by an Indian batter.
4) Shubman Gill: 847 vs Australia on September 24, 2023
India’s ODI captain, Shubman Gill, achieved a career-high rating of 847 points in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings following his performance against Australia on September 24, 2023.
During the 2nd ODI in Indore, he scored 104 runs off 97 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes, helping India reach 399/5 in a game won by 99 runs via the DLS method.
3) Rohit Sharma: 882 vs Sri Lanka on July 6, 2019
Former Indian captain and one of the most complete white-ball batters of the century, Rohit Sharma earned an ODI batter’s rating of 882 points by the ICC during the 2019 Men’s Cricket World Cup match against Sri Lanka on July 6, 2019, at Headingley, Leeds.
This remains one of his career-high moments in the tournament. Apart from that, he also became the first player to score 5 centuries in a single World Cup edition. Moreover, he reached No.2 in the ODI batting rankings at the time, trailing behind his teammate, Virat Kohli.
2) Sachin Tendulkar: 887 vs Zimbabwe on November 13, 1998
On November 13, 1998, during the final of the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy in Sharjah, the ‘God of Cricket’, Sachin Tendulkar, reached 887 points against Zimbabwe. This was his career-high ICC ODI batting rating.
It stood as the record for the highest-ever ODI rating points by an Indian batter for nearly two decades until it was equalled and later surpassed by Virat Kohli.
1) Virat Kohli: 909 vs England on February 20, 2018
Kohli had the time of his life in the six one-day internationals played in South Africa through February 2018. He accumulated a total of 558 runs, with scores of 112, 46*, 160*, 75, 36 and 129* across 6 fixtures, helping India claim the series 5-1.
His wonders helped him climb to the top of the ICC ODI Batters Rankings. Finally, on February 20, 2018, Virat Kohli reached his career-high ICC ODI rating of 909 points, making him the first Indian batter to cross the 900-point mark and standing tall as the Indian batter with the highest ODI rating in history.
