The West Indies batters were all over Zimbabwe in their first Super 8 fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium. Led by Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell’s berserk fifties, the Caribbeans piled up a record-shattering 254/6 total on the board in the first innings of the match.
With this mammoth total, they added their name to the list of the highest innings totals in the T20 World Cup history, missing out on the record total by a small margin. Below is a breakdown of the five highest scores by a team in the T20 World Cup innings.

5. South Africa – 229/4 vs England, Mumbai, 2016
When the competition was played in India the last time in 2016, South Africa were asked to bat first by England at the Wankhede Stadium in a Group 1 clash. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock put on a brilliant 96-run opening stand in just 7.1 overs before the southpaw was dismissed for 52(24).
Amla batted till the end of the 12th over and got 58(31) with 7 fours and three sixes, just like de Kock. AB de Villiers chipped in with 16 off 8, followed by an unbeaten knock of 28-ball-54 for JP Duminy and 28* (12) with two fours and two sixes for David Miller to end the innings with 229/4 on the board.
4. England – 230/8 vs South Africa, Mumbai, 2016
The aforementioned match saw another swashbuckling innings on the day as England chased down the 230-run target in Mumbai. Jason Roy and Alex Hales put on 48 runs in only 2.3 overs before the latter was dismissed for 17(7).
Roy went on to score 43(16) with five fours and three sixes before Joe Root put on a Player of the Match winning masterclass 83 off 44 with six fours and four sixes in the winning cause.
Other batters chipped in with small contributions, including 21(14) for Jos Buttler and 15(9) for Ben Stokes, and they chased down the target in 19.4 overs.
3. Ireland – 235/5 vs Oman, Colombo (SSC), 2026
Earlier in the ongoing tournament, Ireland took on Oman at the Colombo (SSC) in a Group B clash and batted first. Despite early blows reducing them to 45/3 and 64/4, the stand-in captain Lorcan Tucker had the game by the scruff of its neck as he scored an unbeaten 94 off 51 with 10 fours and four sixes.
He was complemented by Gareth Delany’s 56(30) with three fours and four sixes. George Dockrell also contributed with his swashbuckling 35*(9) with 5 sixes, including three in the final over, which had Tucker stranded on 94 to help Ireland reach 235/5. They went on to win the match by 96 runs.
2. West Indies – 254/6 vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai, 2026
Having qualified for the Super 8 stage with four wins in four games, West Indies stamped their authority and continued their momentum in the tournament. After starting a bit slow, Shimron Hetmyer, who walked in at 17/1 at the 2.4 over mark, went all guns blazing and scored a 19-ball-50. Subsequently, he went on to score 85(34) with 7 fours and 7 sixes.
Rovman Powell also played a crucial knock of 59(35) with four fours and four sixes, followed by 31*(13) for Sherfane Rutherford, 21(10) for Romario Shepherd and 13(4) for Jason Holder to reach 254/6 in 20 overs.
1. Sri Lanka – 260/6 vs Kenya, Johannesburg, 2007
During the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cups, just months after losing the 50-over final, Sri Lanka were grouped with Kenya and faced them in Johannesburg. Batting first, the explosive Sanath Jayasuriya scored 88(44) with 11 fours and 4 sixes to give them a blistering start.
It was followed by 27-ball-65 for captain Mahela Jayawardene and an unbeaten 46 off only 13 for Jehan Mubarak with three fours and five sixes. They reached 260/6 in 20 overs and won the match by a massive margin of 172 runs.
