Shimron Hetmyer Makes Zimbabwe Realise True Cost Of Dropped Catch With Record-Breaking Knock

Shimron Hetmyer vs Zimbabwe (Source: AFP)You just can not drop a catch of Shimron Hetmyer, arguably the most dangerous in-form top-order T20I batter at present, irrespective of teams. And Zimbabwe realised this very clearly on Monday, when they faced the West Indies in a Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The incident happened during the 4th over of the West Indies’ innings when Blessing Muzarabani was bowling to Hetmyer, who was batting on 9*. Tashinga Musekiwa was perfectly placed at deep square leg, but all he could do was make a meal of a simple catch. The rest, of course, was history.Shimron Hetmyer Breaks Multiple T20I World Cup RecordsTo make matters worse, Hetmyer was dropped on 70* yet again. Tashinga Musekiwa was the culprit again, as Brad Evans could have got Hetmyer’s wicket had he not dropped a simple chance. No wonder Hetmyer did not go slow after the first lifeline, nor after the second. He ended up losing his wicket after smashing 85 off just 34 balls, which included seven fours and as many sixes. In the process, Hetmyer broke multiple records, of which some of them was of his own. Rovman Powell, notably, gave the support he had required during his entertaining stay. Also Read: Vaibhav Suryavanshi IPLFastest 50s for West Indies in T20 World Cups (By Balls):19 - Shimron Hetmyer vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2026, Tonight*22 - Shimron Hetmyer vs Scotland, Kolkata, 202623 - Chris Gayle vs Australia, The Oval, 200926 - Chris Gayle vs South Africa, Johannesburg, 2007Fastest 50s for West Indies in T20Is (By balls):16 – Shai Hope vs Bangladesh, Sylhet, 201817 – Chris Gayle vs South Africa, Cape Town, 201518 – Evin Lewis vs Bangladesh, Dhaka, 201819 – Shimron Hetmyer vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2026, Tonight*Fastest 50s in T20 World Cup 2026 (By Balls):19 – Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka) vs Oman, Pallekele19 – Aiden Markram (South Africa) vs New Zealand, Ahmedabad19 – Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies) vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), Tonight*20 – Ishan Kishan (India) vs Namibia, DelhiHighest 3rd Wicket Partnerships for West Indies in T20 World Cups122 – Shimron Hetmyer & Rovman Powell vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), Tonight*97 – Johnson Charles & Lendl Simmons vs India, Mumbai (Wankhede), 201683 – Dwayne Bravo & Chris Gayle vs Australia, Colombo (RPS), 2012Highest Batting Strike Rate for West Indies in an Innings in T20 WCs (50+ Runs)250.00 - Shimron Hetmyer vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2026, Tonight*210.25 - Shai Hope vs USA, Bridgetown, 2024208.33 - Chris Gayle vs England, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2016Highest Individual Score for Shimron Hetmyer in T20Is85 vs Zimbabwe, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2026, Tonight*81* vs Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, 202175 vs South Africa, Centurion, 2026West Indies Make India Worried With Scintillating Display Vs ZimbabweWest Indies, with a statement showing against Zimbabwe, made India realise they are not here just to mess around.
