Batting standards in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have evolved quite rapidly in the recent years. It has evolved from a cautious, anchor-based strategy to a “fearless” era of ultra-aggression, where scores of 200+ are now more common than ever.
Batters now attack from the first ball, topped with the Impact Player rule, since 2023, which has extended batting lineups, allowing players from positions 3 to 8 to contribute equally at high strike rates.
Over the years, the league has witnessed players break records across departments, including some of the fastest fifties in T20 cricket. With Yashasvi Jaiswal and Urvil Patel now sharing the record for the fastest fifty in IPL.
1. Fastest Fifties In IPL: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Urvil Patel lead the list With 13-ball fifties
On May 10, in the ongoing IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings batter, Urvil Patel, equalled the record for the fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League by smashing a 13-ball half-century. He shares the record with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who brought up his half-century off 13 balls on the way to 98 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in IPL 2023.
Patel's effort was also the joint-eighth fastest half-century in all T20 cricket. The fastest T20 fifty belongs to Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee, who scored a half-century off nine balls against Mongolia in the 2023 Asian Games.
2. Shepherd, Cummins, KL Rahul: Second in the tally with a 14-ball half-century
Sitting right behind, Jaiswal and Urvil, KL Rahul (2018), Pat Cummins (2022), and Romario Shepherd (2025) all hold the joint second-fastest fifty in IPL history, with each reaching the milestone in just 14 balls.
In his debut match for Punjab, KL Rahul achieved the feat in just 14 balls, setting the standard for fast fifties at the time. He slammed 4 fours and 4 sixes in the opening overs, dominating the Delhi bowling attack.

Playing for RCB, Romario Shepherd demolished the CSK bowling in the final overs, including a massive 33-run penultimate over against Khaleel Ahmed. His 14-ball half-century helped RCB reach a massive total of 213, showcasing incredible power-hitting.
3. 15-ball fifty in IPL: Multiple names for 3rd spot
Several players hold the record for the 3rd fastest fifty in IPL history (joint 3rd, achieved in 15 balls). It is worth noting that, as of the IPL 2026 season, young prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has achieved this feat as many as three times.

Most recent among the three—a record-breaking innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad (103 off 37 on April 25, 2025). The hundred versus SRH also became the third-fastest century in IPL history.
