An ICC full member nation is planning to tour Nepal. The nation, which also happens to be one of Cricket’s ‘Big Three’, is none other than the England cricket team.

Not long ago, both England and Nepal cricket teams were involved in a heart-stopping T20 thriller at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Playing in front of a partisan Nepal crowd at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Nepal fell just a boundary short in scripting history.

England planning to tour Nepal in 2027-31 cycle

The England men’s team might become the biggest international side to tour Nepal. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is currently exploring the prospects of scheduling a short T20I series at some point in Nepal during the 2027-31 ICC international cycle.

Even though Nepal is making rapid strides world cricket, the national team is yet to host a Test-playing nation. While Cricket Ireland is also planning to organize a tour of Nepal in either late 2026 or early 2027, a tour by England would mark a historic milestone for Nepal considering it will become the country’s first-ever bilateral home series against one of Cricket’s ‘Big Three’ members.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) secretary and former captain Paras Khadka met several ECB officials to discuss the possibility of a Nepal vs England T20I series. The discussion took place in India earlier this year, shortly after the T20 World Cup 2026 Group C thriller between the two sides.

CAN secretary wants major teams to tour Nepal

Paras Khadka has urged major cricket teams to tour Nepal in a bid to boost the popularity of the game. He said that Nepal players will be able to learn a great deal by playing against some top cricketers in the world.

While speaking in a documentary broadcasted by Sky Sports, the CAN secretary said “What Nepal cricket needs right now is exposure. Because we're an ODI country, we want matches against Test-playing nations because the only way you improve as a cricketer is when you play against better cricketers, when you play against better opponents. That's when you learn the game.”

Nepal captain emphasises importance of hosting big series

Nepal captain Rohit Paudel said that a home series against teams like Australia or England would help “globalize” the sport.

While speaking at the 2026 T20 World Cup earlier this year, he said “It would mean a lot, especially if Australia or England comes to Nepal. That would show world cricket Nepal also plays cricket, and plays decent cricket.”

What happened the last time Nepal faced England

Nepal and England teams have faced each other just once, doing so in a Group C match of the 2026 T20 World Cup on February 8.

England batted first and charted 184-7 in 20 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee and Nandan Yadav delivered tight spells and picked up two wickets each in the innings.

Chasing 185, Nepal entertained thoughts of securing an unlikely win courtesy of captain Rohit Paudel and number four Dipendra Singh. Lokesh Bam also clubbed a fiery 20-ball 39*, but a tight last-over from Sam Curran sealed the deal in England’s favour by just four runs.
