Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are battling for survival as they lock horns against one another in Match 47 of IPL 2026, with Wankhede Stadium hosting the clash.
After being invited to bat first, the Rishabh Pant-led Super Giants started really well, despite losing opener Josh Inglis very early in the innings. Soon, Nicholas Pooran took charge, and along with Mitchell Marsh, they posted 90 runs in the first six overs.
However, a quick succession of wickets brought the momentum back to the host Mumbai. Amid the chaos, a 21-year-old LSG debutant, Akshat Raghuwanshi, marked his IPL arrival with a bang.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant, after losing the toss against MI, made a significant announcement confirming that young middle-order batter Akshat Raghuvanshi is making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut.
Later in the high-octane clash, Raghuwanshi walked in to bat after his captain Rishabh Pant’s dismissal. Facing Will Jacks, he launched a floated delivery over long-on for a 89-metre maximum, becoming one of the few players to achieve this feat.

In a poetic twist, Raghuvanshi’s IPL debut came against the team led by his idol, Rohit Sharma. Proving he belongs on the big stage, the right-hander opened his IPL account with a massive six against Will Jacks, marking an emotional and inspiring start to his career.
It is worth noting that on his debut, Akshat Raghuwanshi joined the likes of another young IPL sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, in the list of players who have hit a six on the first ball on their IPL debut.

With only four points in their kitty, both Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are in must-win territory.

Mumbai Indians’ season has gone off track mainly due to injuries and poor form of key players. Rohit Sharma has been dealing with a hamstring injury, while Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have not been among the runs.
Jasprit Bumrah has also not been as effective in taking wickets as he used to be, which has further added to their problems.
Notably, Lucknow Super Giants are in a similar situation, with their form dipping after a promising start. They won two of their first three matches but are now on a five-match losing streak.
While their bowling has been one of the better units in the tournament, their batting has struggled badly, especially that of Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran. The middle order has also not been much help.
