RCB and Gujarat Titans, the table toppers of IPL 2026 league stage, finished with 18 points each from 14 games, winning 9 matches apiece in a dominant campaign that set the tone for their playoff qualification.
Both sides now face off in Qualifier 1, the first playoffs encounter of IPL 2026, with a direct ticket to the final on the line. A high-voltage clash awaits as consistency meets momentum in a blockbuster showdown.
RCB vs GT Qualifier 1- Preview
RCB and Gujarat Titans set to lock horns against each other in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 on Tuesday, May 26. The big-ticket clash will take place at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and is scheduled to go live from 7:30 PM IST.
Gujarat Titans Hold Statistical Edge in Pace Bowling Unit
Gujarat Titans and RCB boast two of the best bowling attacks in IPL 2026. Particularly when comparing their pace units, there has been very little difference between the two sides.
Gujarat Titans’ pace attack holds the best bowling average in the tournament at 22.93, while also taking the most wickets as a unit. RCB are not far behind, ranking second with an average of 27.37 for their pace attack.
Kagiso Rabada and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been the leaders of their respective attacks and are joint leading wicket-takers of IPL 2026 with 24 wickets each. However, Rabada has enjoyed stronger support, with Mohammed Siraj forming a dominant powerplay combination.
Together, GT’s new-ball bowling has taken 30 powerplay wickets, the most by any team this season. RCB are close behind with 28 powerplay wickets, but a heavier burden has fallen on Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
As a result, GT’s powerplay economy stands at 8.76, compared to RCB’s 9.50. In the middle-overs as well, the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Jason Holder have elevated Gujarat Titans’ bowling to another level, something RCB have struggled to match, with Josh Hazlewood yet to hit peak form this season.
RCB Maintain Superior Overall Batting Firepower in IPL 2026
RCB have had one consistent strength this season, their explosive batting. While teams like SRH and Punjab Kings have also been highly destructive, RCB have combined aggression with control, with Virat Kohli anchoring the top of the order.
Gujarat Titans are not far behind, having significantly improved their hitting ability, but they will need to take it to another level to counter the likes of Rajat Patidar and Tim David. GT struck at 145.42 and hit only 44 sixes in the first 7 games of the season, losing 4 of them.

However, in the second half, they won 6 out of 7 games, largely due to their amazing bowling performance backed by an increase in batting aggression as their strike-rate rose to 157.28, and they hit 64 sixes in the last 7 games.
Shubman Gill and his men will need to sustain this upward trajectory, as RCB are expected to come all guns blazing. RCB are striking at 164.13 overall this season as a batting unit, compared to GT’s 151.3.
RCB also hit a six every 10.68 balls, compared to Gujarat Titans’ 14.85 balls per six, giving RCB a clear edge if the conditions favors six hitting in Dharamashala in the Qualifier 1 clash.

Possible Changes
Richard Gleeson In For RCB
Richard Gleeson might be a surprise addition in RCB's playing XI vs GT in place of Suyash Sharma considering there has not been much help from the Dharamshala surface for spinners.
Phil Salt's latest update ahead of RCB vs GT Qualifier 1
Phil Salt is currently with RCB but is unlikely to play the first Qualifier against Gujarat Titans due to finger injury.
Prasidh Krishna to get dropped against RCB?
Prasidh Krishna has been in and out of GT's playing XI this season. However, he is expected to play the Qualifier 1 as there has not been much help for spinners in Dharamshala to take a gamble on Sai Kishore.
What To Expect?
The Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala is an evening game, and conditions are expected to favour chasing. The surface has not been as flat as it might appear, with pacers extracting some grip off a back-of-a-length during league matches here.
There is also a brief period of swing available with the new ball. That said, the ball does travel well at this venue, and batting should not be overly difficult if bowlers miss their lengths or offer anything full.
On paper, Gujarat Titans appear slightly better equipped for this contest, given their tall hit-the-deck bowlers who can counter RCB’s aggressive batting unit. However, Virat Kohli remains a crucial factor for RCB, especially in controlling the chase or setting a stable platform in Dharamshala's two-paced wicket.
