The Padma Shri continues to stand as one of India’s most prestigious civilian honours. It is given as a recognition to outstanding individuals for their immense contributions to the country.
The Padma Shri is also officially ranked the fourth-highest civilian award in India after Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan; and it has been previously handed to some of the greatest of Indian cricket.
Over the years, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Ravichandran Ashwin, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Rahul Dravid and men’s World Cup winning captains MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev among others have been honoured by the Indian government with this honour.

After bringing home the ODI glory, Harmanpreet Kaur will now lead the India Women’s team in the upcoming 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Yet to win a T20 crown, the upcoming showpiece event might well be Kaur’s final opportunity as the cricketer will be nearing 40 by the time of the next tournament in 2028.
As per the ICC schedule, Team India is placed in Group A of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup alongside Bangladesh, arch-rivals Pakistan, South Africa, Netherlands and serial winners Australia.
Harmanpreet and co. will be taking on Pakistan in their opening match of the competition on June 14 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
