In a significant development, it has been learnt that swashbuckling English batter Phil Salt is set to return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season.
Led by Rajat Patidar, RCB have already qualified for the IPL playoffs, winning nine out of thirteen group-stage fixtures.
The defending champions had to compromise the quality of their top-order, as Phil Salt was sidelined from several matches due to a thumb injury. However, according to ESPNCricinfo, the England batter will return to India later this week ahead of the playoff fixtures.
Phil Salt missed 7 matches for RCB in IPL 2026
Swashbuckling English batter Phil Salt had a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. He managed only 130 runs across eight innings, averaging less than 17 in the tournament.
However, he regained his mojo in the IPL 2026 for RCB, forming a destructive opening pair with Virat Kohli. He exhibited remarkable form in the competition, amassing 202 runs at an average of 33.67 and a blistering strike rate of 168.33.
But an unfortunate finger injury jeopardised Phil Salt's IPL 2026 campaign, as the wicketkeeper-batter missed seven matches for the Royal Challengers.

He sustained the injury while fielding in the RCB vs DC encounter and was subsequently sidelined from the playing XI of the Bengaluru-based franchise. The Englishman flew back to his home mid-IPL and spent the recovery period with his family.
In his absence, Jacob Bethell opened for RCB with modest success. The left-handed batter registered a string of low scores, accumulating only 96 runs in seven innings at a miserable average of 13.71.
Phil Salt to make IPL return after RCB's playoff qualification
Jacob Bethell's modest returns didn't bother RCB too much, with Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David and Venkatesh Iyer consistently scoring runs for the franchise.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's purple patch also worked wonders for the defending champions, as they stormed into the IPL 2026 playoffs despite missing a player of Salt's calibre.
RCB's emphatic triumph against Punjab Kings helped them become the first team to enter the IPL 2026 playoffs. After the team confirmed an entry into the next round, Phil Salt was reported to return to India for the upcoming matches.
Phil Salt's IPL participation still not confirmed
Although Salt is set to arrive in India next week, his participation in the remainder of the IPL 2026 is still uncertain.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Salt is doubtful for the Royal Challengers' final group-stage match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with the team management unlikely to take any risk by fast-tracking him to action.
If Phil Salt doesn't receive the fitness clearance from the RCB medical team, his English teammate Jacob Bethell will continue to open the batting for the Rajat Patidar-led side.
The southpaw would be desperate to make an impact in the high-profile contest, which will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 22.
