Mumbai Indians had a disappointing IPL 2026 season as they finished ninth on the points table after managing only four wins in 14 matches. The franchise struggled to find consistency throughout the tournament under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
Notably, barring the leadership duties, the Indian all-rounder failed to make a major impact either with the bat or the ball despite being one of the highest-paid players in the competition.
Although Hardik produced a few useful cameos during the season, he could not deliver the match-winning consistency expected from a senior all-rounder leading a five-time champion side.
As the Mumbai Indians wrapped up their IPL 2026 journey, here is a detailed look at how costly every Hardik Pandya run, wicket, and delivery turned out to be for the franchise.
Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2026 Price
Pandya remained one of the Mumbai Indians’ marquee retained players ahead of IPL 2026. The franchise retained him for INR 16.35 crore for the season, the second-highest paid player of the team after Jasprit Bumrah.
In addition to his retention salary, Hardik also earned INR 7.5 lakhs as match fees per game. Since he featured in 10 matches during IPL 2026, he earned an additional INR 75 lakhs through match participation fees.
This means Pandya’s total earnings from IPL 2026 stood at INR 23.85 crore overall, including the retention salary. After the season, Pandya now has 23.61 crore INR in his hand after getting penalised by the BCCI two times for code of conduct breach and a slow over rate penalty.
How Did Hardik Pandya Perform In IPL 2026?
Pandya had an underwhelming season with the bat for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. Across 10 innings, he scored only 206 runs at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.26.
His highest score of the season was 40 runs off 22 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Hardik also played cameos of 34 against Rajasthan Royals and 31 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but failed to convert starts into big innings consistently.

With the ball, Hardik’s numbers were equally disappointing. He picked up just four wickets in nine bowling innings while leaking runs at a high economy rate of 11.43.
The Mumbai Indians skipper bowled a total of 136 deliveries in IPL 2026 but struggled to provide breakthroughs regularly for his side.
Hardik Pandya’s Cost Per Run In IPL 2026
Pandya earned a total of INR 23.61 crore in IPL 2026 while scoring 206 runs during the season.
This means every run scored by Hardik Pandya costs the Mumbai Indians approximately INR 11.46 lakh.
The figure highlights how expensive Hardik’s batting returns proved for the franchise during a disappointing campaign.
Hardik’s Cost Per Wicket In IPL 2026
Hardik Pandya managed to take only four wickets across IPL 2026 despite bowling regularly for the Mumbai Indians.
With total earnings of INR 23.61 crore, each wicket taken by Hardik effectively cost the franchise around INR 5.90 crore per wicket.
Considering his role as a frontline all-rounder, those numbers underline the Mumbai Indians’ struggles to get value from their captain this season.
Hardik Pandya’s Cost Per Ball In IPL 2026
Hardik bowled 136 deliveries in IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians. Based on his total IPL earnings, every ball bowled by Hardik during the season cost the Mumbai Indians approximately INR 17.36 lakh per delivery.
Despite being one of the premier frontline seamers for the team, the skipper's limited showcase had MI costing each ball dearly.
Should Hardik Pandya Be Sacked From MI Captaincy?
Soumyajit’s Opinion
Without a doubt, Pandya is easily one of the worst captains of the five-time champions. The glory in which the MI team bathed a few years earlier has been dragged to the bottom under Pandya.
Leading the team in 39 matches, Hardik has managed to win only 15 of them with a very poor win percentage of 38.46%. As things stand now, a new MI skipper is on the cards.
As a captain, Hardik has failed to perform, which calls for an immediate leadership change ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Jasprit Bumrah stands as one of the prime candidates, with Suryakumar Yadav also ready to take up the duties.
Even though MI might think of removing him as a captain, releasing him ahead of IPL 2027 might not be a smart move. He is one of the premier fast-bowling all-rounders that the franchise owns, and MI would not like to let go of a hard hitter of the ball as good as Hardik Pandya.
