Shresta Iyer slammed by netizens on the internet [Source: Screengrab]
Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta Iyer, has been receiving a tremendous amount of backlash on social media after the team lost their way into the IPL 2026 Playoffs.
Despite a valiant win against Lucknow Super Giants on May 24, PBKS had a lot at stake for the MI vs RR match that took place a day later on May 24. As things stood, Punjab failed to get to the mark with Rajasthan winning the match comfortably.
As PBKS had a heartbreaking IPL 2026 exit, all attention is now turned towards the PBKS captain’s sister, Shresta Iyer.
What Did Shresta Iyer Do To Trigger Netizens?
Punjab Kings finished fifth on the points table before their IPL 2026 exit. However, the picture was not always the same. Starting their season on a high, Punjab were on a roll with six consecutive wins and remained undefeated in the tournament until April 28.
During that unbeaten streak, Shresta Iyer posted on Instagram and other social media platforms while trolling other teams.
One particular video went viral after the Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match on April 6 ended in a no-result due to rain.

As Punjab were dominating the tournament, Shresta Iyer made a video online in which she was heard saying, “We Punjabis have a very big heart.
So, here is one point. We are giving away one point to you.” The video was made because the match was abandoned and both teams shared one point each due to the washout.
Tables Turned As Shresta Faces Heavy Trolling
However, the tables turned after April 28, as Punjab Kings went on to lose six consecutive matches, dropping from the top of the table to the middle-bottom positions.
Those defeats left Punjab hanging by a thread in the qualification race. After Rajasthan Royals secured 16 points to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, Punjab Kings were knocked out by just one point, finishing with 15 points after winning seven matches from 14 games.
The video has now resurfaced, with fans heavily criticising Shresta Iyer’s gestures and over-enthusiastic celebration.

Conclusion: Did PBKS Deserve the IPL 2026 Exit?
What does Soumyajit think?
For what it's worth, seeing an invincible team go down so hard early in the tournament is painful. Although Punjab waved the flag of victory on almost every team in the first half of the tournament, revenge was executed on PBKS to equalise the scenario.
Punjab didn’t make massive changes to their core setup because of their winning combination that led them to the IPL 2025 Final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But doesn't matter, however it hurts, the bowling unit of PBKS has been lacking this season.
Arshdeep Singh was the highest wicket-taker with only 14 wickets after playing 14 games. The economy rate of the PBKS bowlers against opponents in most matches remained over 11, underscoring how brutally they have been punished this season.
Overall, it was a tragic sign-off from the IPL 2025 runners-up who had all the hopes to make it to the top this time again, hopefully claiming the IPL trophy for the very first time.
