Gurnoor Brar recently registered a ten-wicket haul in the second unofficial Test match against Sri Lanka at Galle. The lanky seamer has become the talk of the town since then for his accuracy and rapid pace.
The Punjab-based seamer, who was with Gujarat in IPL 2026, was fast-tracked to the Indian ODI set-up for the series against Afghanistan, where he impressed everyone by bowling at an average of high 140 kmph.
After the Afghanistan series, Brar is named in the Indian ODI squad for the England tour, where he will share the dressing room with Jasprit Bumrah. However, his sudden rise, even in the longer format, has sparked debate about whether he should be pushed into the Test format as well.
Notably, Gurnoor Brar has played just 19 First-Class games so far, where he has scalped 62 wickets at an average of 25.24 and a lovely strike rate of 41.3.
In this article, we will discuss three seamers who need to worry about their place in the Test setup after the sudden rise of Gurnoor Brar.
3 seamers whom Gurnoor Brar can easily replace in Test setup
Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj is regarded as India's go-to fast bowler after Jasprit Bumrah. Although he does not fall behind the reckoning in T20Is, Siraj has cemented himself as a sure-short starter in the longer formats.
However, the speedster has a tendency the overtry when things aren’t going his way, which results in Siraj bowling at haywire areas. Meanwhile, accuracy has emerged as Gurnoor Brar’s strongest suit.

It will be tough to make a space in place of a bowler with 140 Test wickets, but Gurnoor can be the answer for India in countless situations.

Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna's ability to bowl at hard lengths and exact awkward bounce makes him a rarity in the Indian circuit. The Karnataka seamer is a genuine wicket-taker who can produce a wicket in any conditions.
However, he goes overboard more often than not, which is why his economy rates are always on the higher side.
On the flip side, Gurnoor Brar, a taller fast-bowler than Krishna, would be a perfect like-for-like replacement for the Karnataka quick. Having said that, Prasidh Krishna has played Test matches in Australia and South Africa.

Auqib Nabi
The Jammu & Kashmir fast-bowler, Auqib Nabi, was the talking point of the previous Ranji Trophy season, where he returned with 60 wickets in 17 innings at a strike rate of 28.00. He was then fast-tracked to the IPL cricket, and soon included in the Test squad for the one-off Test match. However, he didn’t make his debut then.
With the sudden rise of Gurnoor Brar, Nabi might get sidelined as the Punjab seamer is taller, quicker and has more variations up his sleeve. Moreover, he outshone the J&K bowler in the unofficial Tests vs Sri Lanka, where Nabi could snap six wickets in two matches.
