Player Bio

One of the most talented batters in English domestic cricket, Alice Capsey, was born on August 11, 2004, in Surrey.

The youngster made her County debut in 2019, and in the same year, she took seven wickets in the Women’s Twenty20 Cup. The top-order marked her presence in the Surrey side, which secured a title in the 2020 edition of the London Cup.

The 2020 season of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy witnessed her emerging as the leading run-scorer with 141 runs in six appearances. The following year, in the Women's Twenty20 Cup, Capsey returned as Surrey’s best all-round performer with 134 runs and 8 wickets.

The 17-year-old made 150 runs in eight innings of the 2021 edition of Women’s Hundred for Oval Invincibles and was a part of the title-holders.

In the 2021 edition of the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the Surrey-born scored 203 runs, scalped seven wickets in six matches, and helped South East Stars win the title. Soon, the skillful batter was awarded PCA Women's Young Player of the Year.

The consistent performances earned her a national call-up in the 2022 South Africa series. After scoring 25 in her first international batting appearance, the all-rounder was given an opportunity in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The elegant batter returned as the top scorer for England in the league stages with 135 runs in five innings.

The youngster added another feather to her cap by making her ODI debut in a home series against India. Thrown into the middle order against one of the world’s most experienced bowling attacks, she showed composure beyond her years. Her standout moment came at Canterbury, where she crafted a fluent 39—her highest in the series—laying the foundation for what promises to be a long and versatile 50-over career.

October 2022 saw Capsey take her first steps into overseas franchise cricket with a debut in the Women’s Big Bash League for the Melbourne Stars. The teenage dynamo wasted no time making an impact, amassing 259 runs across 14 matches, highlighted by a commanding unbeaten 80 off just 52 deliveries against the Hobart Hurricanes. With the ball in hand, she proved equally effective, claiming 9 wickets and peaking with figures of 3 for 37, showcasing her growing value as a complete T20 package.

But just as her momentum was building, December brought a cruel twist. During the opening ODI of England's tour of the West Indies, Capsey suffered a broken collarbone—an untimely injury that ruled her out of the remainder of the series. It was a brief pause in an otherwise soaring rise, but one that added resilience to her fast-developing story.

2023 marked a stirring return for Alice Capsey as she featured prominently in the high-stakes Women’s Ashes series. Under pressure and under lights in the 3rd T20I, she unleashed a blistering 46 off just 23 balls, earning the Player of the Match award and helping England level the series. Her influence extended into the ODIs as well, where she contributed a composed 40 in the opener at Bristol, reaffirming her status as a dependable force in pressure scenarios.

Melbourne Stars retained Capsey for the WBBL 09 season. She quickly made her mark with a fluent half-century—52 runs—in the fourth game against Brisbane Heat, demonstrating her evolving consistency and ability to perform under pressure in one of the world’s toughest T20 leagues.

Back with England, Capsey featured in the challenging T20I series in India. While runs were harder to come by, she contributed a total of 32 runs across the matches, gaining valuable experience in subcontinental conditions and further honing her all-round skills.

Looking ahead, Capsey was named in England’s squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, signalling the team’s faith in her as a key player for their major tournament ambitions. The selection highlighted her rise from a promising youngster to an established international contender.

In August 2024, Alice Capsey continued to cement her status as a match-winner for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. She kicked off the campaign in spectacular fashion, scoring back-to-back fifties in the first two matches, setting the tone for the season. Her all-around contribution peaked in the final against Southern Brave, where she added a valuable 25 runs and took 2 crucial wickets, playing a key role in leading the Invincibles to their second championship title.

Alongside her on-field exploits, Capsey took on growing leadership responsibilities during the 2024 season. Acting as an unofficial deputy to Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill, she demonstrated maturity and tactical awareness beyond her years, hinting strongly at her potential to captain England in the near future. This evolution in her role marked an important step in her career development, both as a player and a leader.

In November 2024, Alice Capsey faced a challenging phase in her career when she was initially left out of England’s T20 and Test squads for the South Africa tour, a decision reflecting a temporary dip in form. However, circumstances soon shifted in her favour—injuries to key players prompted her late inclusion in the T20 squad. This recall not only gave her a chance to regain confidence on the international stage but also highlighted the selectors’ continued belief in her potential to bounce back and contribute significantly.
