Known for his medium pace, he generally operates as a first or second change bowler in the shorter formats. Control and variation in line and length are key components that encompass his bowling repertoire. With the bat in hand, the 1997-born generally operates in the middle order. Unlike Andre Russell’s and Kieron Pollard’s, Descartes loves to settle in and gradually switch gears in the middle.

The multifaceted all-rounder's standout knock was a 119 off 188 balls against the Leeward Islands during the 14th assignment of the 2025 West Indies Championship. He came in to bat at a precarious time with Windward Island’s score reflecting 58/4 at the start of the 16th over.

In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the bits and pieces player represented the St Lucia Kings during the 2023 and 2024 editions. He scored 59 runs at a strike rate of 109.26 and picked up a wicket in what was his debut season in 2023. In the following edition, the all-rounder scored 27 runs and bagged five wickets in as many appearances for the Kings.

As West Indies cricket summons for a transition, Descartes has a great opportunity to capitalise on the chances being provided at every level of the game. His exploration of tournaments like the Cool and Smooth T20 Cup and the Max Sixty Cup is only going to enhance his cricketing resume going forward.
