A good start to the tournament for Brampton Blazers as they beat Toronto Kings who are probably the best side in the competition according to the Blazers' captain, Hamza Tariq himself. Toronto Kings won't be disheartened either as they did stay in the game for a good period of time.
Hamza Tariq (POTM & Brampton Blazers Captain): "[You were under a bit of pressure but played beautifully] Honestly, I'm a little surprised to get the Player of the Match award. Ethan Gibson bowled exceptionally well. We had a young bowling attack, with five or six Canadians playing, and it was great to see them perform the way they did.

[You had them at 47 for 5. Were you disappointed they got that many runs, or were you confident at halftime?] Yeah, when you have a team at 47 for 5, you expect to restrict them to around 130. We did concede a few runs towards the end, but the boys gave it their best. They're a bit inexperienced, but I think they did a good job for us.

Toronto Kings are probably the strongest team on paper, so beating them on the opening day will give everyone in our team a huge confidence boost. Hopefully, we can build on this and keep the momentum going."
Dwaine Pretorius (Toronto Kings Captain): "[About their total] I thought we did really well, Obus Pienaar played brilliantly, had a great partnership with Ali Nadeem.

[Was the total enough?] In hindsight we were probably 10 runs short. We need to get used to the angles, there were a lot of singles and doubles. But it is a decent start to the tournament.

[Where do you need to improve going ahead?] First time for a lot of guys playing here. It is about assessing the conditions. They stitched partnerships nicely, didn't lose wickets in clumps and deserved to win. Their batting unit summed up the conditions better."
Hamza Tariq gets the 'Player of the Match' award.
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
8:08 AM IST, 10:38 PM Local Time: Brampton Blazers outclassed Toronto Kings by five wickets in the curtain-raiser of Global T20 2026, kicking off their campaign on a high note. The contest looked one-sided at one stage, but both sides fought hard to keep it alive until the final over. In the end, the Blazers held their nerve to seal a comfortable victory.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Toronto Kings were rocked by the Blazers bowlers, losing half their side for just 44 runs. However, Obus Pienaar played a scintillating knock to rescue the Kings from a precarious position. He smashed an unbeaten 77 off 41 balls, helping the Kings post 153/6 in 20 overs. Ethan Gibson was the star with the ball for the Blazers, claiming three wickets for just 25 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Brampton Blazers got off to a decent start in terms of scoring rate but lost three wickets for 45 runs. Skipper Hamza Tariq steadied the ship with a valuable 44 off 32 balls, putting the Blazers in a strong position to win. Shadrack Descarte (20*) and Dillon Douglas (16*) then ensured their side crossed the line in the final over. The Kings failed to maintain their momentum, while a couple of dropped chances also proved costly as they were unable to defend their total. Akhil Kumar was the Kings' leading wicket-taker, claiming two wickets.
