Manav Suthar makes India debut (Source: X)
The selection of Manav Suthar for India’s Test match for Afghanistan, taking place in Mullanpur, sparked a lot of debate. With Shubman Gill being India’s Test captain and Suthar playing for the Gujarat Titans, where Gill is in charge, many alleged that Suthar’s selection happened largely due to bias.
However, it was not the case at all. Even though Suthar does not have an extraordinary First-Class record, averaging 25 with the ball and the same with the bat after 29 matches for Rajasthan, he is just 23 years old and will only go onwards and upwards from here on.
Manav Suthar Special Ft. Ranji Trophy
By far, the most significant contribution from Suthar came during the Last Ranji Trophy season, when Rajasthan were up against Himachal Pradesh.
In that match, Suthar walked into the middle with a bat in hand when Rajasthan were struggling at 98/5. Playing in Jaipur, not only did he hold the fort from one end, but he also made a statement century there to take his side to a commanding position.

It was a knock of pure grit from Suthar, which had seven fours and four sixes in a 330-ball stay. He fell for a 120-run knock, which, of course, was a remarkable one.
Not to forget, Kukna Ajay Singh and Amol Chelani supported Suthar with handy half-centuries. Unfortunately, the match ended in a draw.
How Has Suthar Performed In India vs Afghanistan Test?
Let’s not forget the fact that Suthar is a bowling all-rounder, and hence, his bowling will be primarily focused on rather than his batting during the India versus Afghanistan Test match in Mullanpur.
While his bowling is yet to happen, his batting was decent against Afghanistan. In his 41-ball stay, Suthar smashed two sixes and as many fours while making 28. He seemed really promising in the middle until Saleem Safi, Afghanistan’s most promising bowler in the match, took his wicket.
Manav Suthar In IPL 2026
For those who are unaware, Suthar’s bowling style is slow left-arm orthodox. He played in the IPL 2026 for Gujarat Titans, and was featured in four matches.
Unfortunately for him, Gill only gave Suthar six overs across four matches, and he took two wickets there. The two wickets were RCB captain Rajat Patidar and CSK’s swashbuckling middle-order batter Dewald Brevis.
Before IPL 2026, Suthar played a match in IPL 2024 for Gujarat Titans. Back then, he bowled two overs and conceded 24 runs for no wicket.
