June 29 remains one of Indian cricket’s defining dates.
On this day in 2024, Rohit Sharma’s side held its nerve to beat South Africa by seven runs in a dramatic T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown.
The victory ended India’s long wait for an ICC title in the shortest format and marked the beginning of a transition that reshaped the national side.
Since then, India have gone on to win another T20 World Cup 2026, becoming the first team to lift back-to-back men’s T20 World Cup trophies.
Two years later, that title-winning squad has taken very different paths. Some remain at the heart of India’s plans, some have stepped away from the format, while others have quietly drifted out of contention.
Where Is India's T20 World Cup 2024 Winning Team Now?
Rohit Sharma (C)
The 2024 T20 World Cup winning captain signed off in the perfect fashion. Moments after lifting the T20 World Cup trophy, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is, ending a career that produced 4,231 runs in 159 matches.
The following year, he also stepped down as India’s ODI and Test captain. The veteran opener now features only in ODI format for India while continuing his IPL career.
Hardik Pandya (vc)
India’s vice-captain Hardik Pandya was one of the driving forces behind the 2024 triumph and remained a regular in the T20I setup afterward.
Injuries, though, have interrupted his progress in 2026. The all-rounder has spent much of the year on the sidelines, with his last competitive appearance coming in IPL 2026, where he captained Mumbai Indians.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
The stylish left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal travelled with the World Cup-winning squad but did not get an opportunity during the tournament.
His T20I journey after that never really gathered momentum. Jaiswal featured in only one T20I series, against Sri Lanka in 2024, before stiff competition at the top of the order pushed him out of India’s plans. He continues to represent India in ODIs and Tests.
Virat Kohli
Like Rohit, Virat Kohli walked away from T20Is immediately after the World Cup triumph. His retirement from Test cricket followed the next year, leaving him available only for ODIs and franchise cricket.
The former India captain was last seen in the IPL 2026 final for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, producing an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls against Gujarat Titans. He is currently recovering from the injury he suffered during that final.

Suryakumar Yadav
Few players experienced a bigger shift after the 2024 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav took over as India’s T20I captain following Rohit’s retirement and led the team to another T20 World Cup title in 2026. His leadership record quickly established him among India’s most successful captains in the format.
That chapter came to an abrupt end after the 2026 World Cup, with the Mumbai batter losing both the captaincy and his place in the side. His most recent outing came in the Mumbai T20 2026 tournament, where he scored 163 runs in five innings.
Sanju Samson
The Kerala wicketkeeper has cemented his place in India’s T20I plans.
Notably, Samson played a starring role in India’s successful T20 World Cup 2026 campaign and finished the tournament as the Player of the Tournament.
His recent form has dipped, though. In the latest T20I series against Ireland, the wicketkeeper managed five runs across two innings.
Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube has remained a regular face in India’s T20I setup since the Barbados triumph.
The all-rounder has played 66 matches, scoring 1,036 runs at a strike rate of 153.93. His latest assignment came in the 2026 T20I series against Ireland, where he scored 45 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 150.00.
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja’s international T20 career ended shortly after India’s World Cup celebrations.
A month after the triumph, the all-rounder retired from T20Is, following Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He remains available in ODIs and Tests and was last seen in action during IPL 2026.
Axar Patel
Few players have been as consistent in India’s white-ball setup. Axar Patel featured in both India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaigns in 2024 and 2026 and continues to be a regular across formats. His latest appearance came in the recent T20I series against Ireland, where he contributed 29 runs and claimed two wickets.
Kuldeep Yadav
The wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav owns two T20 World Cup winner’s medals but has rarely enjoyed an extended run in the playing XI.
Kuldeep missed selection for India’s recent T20I series against Ireland. His last competitive appearance came during IPL 2026, representing Delhi Capitals.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Although Yuzvendra Chahal was part of India’s victorious 2024 squad, Chahal did not play a single match during the tournament.
His last T20I appearance for India dates back to the 2023 series against the West Indies. The leg-spinner continues to feature in the IPL and was last seen playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, where he picked up 12 wickets in 12 innings.
Arshdeep Singh
If there is one bowler who has successfully carried forward the momentum of the 2024 campaign, it is Arshdeep Singh.
The left-arm seamer remains a regular in India’s white-ball sides. During the T20 World Cup 2026, he claimed nine wickets in eight innings at an economy rate of 8.47. He followed that up with four wickets in two innings against Ireland.
Jasprit Bumrah
India’s pace spearhead continues to be indispensable across formats.
Bumrah played decisive roles in both T20 World Cup triumphs, although workload management has become a key part of his schedule. He was rested for the recent Ireland T20Is, with his last appearance coming in IPL 2026. By his lofty standards, it was a quiet season, returning four wickets in 13 innings.
Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj has largely slipped out of India’s T20I plans since the 2024 World Cup.
Following the tournament, he featured only in the Sri Lanka T20I series before falling out of the squad. An opportunity returned during the 2026 T20 World Cup after Harshit Rana’s injury, and the fast bowler made an immediate impact by taking three wickets in his lone appearance.
Notably, his most recent cricket came in IPL 2026, where he finished with 19 wickets in 17 innings.
