Ever since the T20 World Cup began in 2007, India have had a knack for dominating the format in different phases. That’s why the Men in Blue have won the ultimate prize for the record three times under three different captains, something no other team is yet to achieve.

However, on Sunday, Gautam Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer’s India suffered an ultimate humiliation. They lost to Ireland, who hardly compete in T20Is at the mega events.

Winning a T20I series is good, but to make it a habit, a unit must function like a well-oiled machine in every department. Some of them rise through the ranks via consistent dominance, and that’s how they become heavyweights.

India, time and time again, have done this in the past, becoming the most successful T20I side in the sport.

4. 6 By India (2019-2021)

Since November 2019, India had won six T20I series on the trot till March 2021. It began with a three-match series against Bangladesh, followed by the assignments against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

After that, they defeated New Zealand, Australia and England before the streak of winning back-to-back six T20I series ended in Sri Lanka, in 2021.

3. 7 By India (2017-2018)

Between 2017 and 2018, India had seven consecutive T20I series victories. However, a no result during a three-match series in Australia later this year under Virat Kohli’s leadership forced them to have a 1-1 scoreline later that year.

Nevertheless, it still remains the third-best streak in terms of most consecutive T20I series wins.

2. 11 By Pakistan (2016-2018)

Pakistan, India’s arch-rivals, won as many as 9 bilateral series during the 2016-2018 period. Their T20I series wins included opponents like England, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia.

To make it 11, there were series for Pakistan against ICC World XI, which the Men in Green won by a 2-1 scoreline. Also, there was a tri-series involving Pakistan, Australia and Zimbabwe in 2018, which Pakistan won by eight wickets in the final against Australia.

1. 12 By India (2024-2026)

India, meanwhile, had 12 consecutive T20I series victories until a shocking whitewash against Ireland. This dream run included heavyweights such as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

For those who are unaware, India had an unbeaten run of 16 T20I series on the trot before the 2-0 defeat vs Ireland.

West Indies, England and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had five back-to-back T20I series victories, while there were many who had won five consecutive T20I series victories.
