Funniest Cricket Moments (Source: DPL & ICC)
In a country like India, cricket is not just a sport; it is passion, an emotion, a religion, and a great source of entertainment. Cricket is a sport renowned for its intensity and drama. However, it also has a lighter side that often brings laughter to the field.
Fielding mishaps are also a common source of humour in cricket. These sloppy fielding moments gave birth to the funniest moments in cricket.
That being said, in this article, we have curated a list of the funniest cricket moments while fielding. Read ahead and enjoy a great laugh.
7) Rana Naved Ul Hasan's funny fielding vs England
During an ODI match against England in 2006, Rana Naved-ul-Hassan scrambled in the outfield and fumbled the ball multiple times in a row while trying to stop a boundary.
Commentators famously compared the comical, repeated fumbles to the "Keystone Cops" (an idiom to describe any group of people who are hilariously disorganised, clumsy, or completely incompetent at handling a task), allowing the batters to run four chaotic runs.
6) Virender Sehwag Walking Run Out vs Sri Lanka
During the 4th ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam on February 17, 2007, Virender Sehwag was bizarrely run out for 46 when he started casually shadow-batting and walking down the pitch, allowing alert Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara to remove his glove and fire a direct hit.
5) Rohit Sharma's bizarre wardrobe malfunction
Anyone can have a bad day on the field, but Rohit Sharma’s slip during IPL 2024 was something else.
In a crucial match played between MI and their arch-rival, Chennai Super Kings, the former Mumbai Indians captain slipped just as he was about to take a catch, sending the ball flying and himself sprawling.

The replay of that slip, caught from multiple angles, quickly became a viral sensation, as Rohit Sharma suffered a humorous wardrobe malfunction when his trousers slipped down mid-fielding as he attempted the diving catch.
4) When Asif Ali’s sloppy fielding gave birth to the "Disappointed Fan" meme
Happened on June 12, 2019, during the ICC Cricket World Cup match between Pakistan and Australia at Taunton, England. Pakistani fielder Asif Ali dropped a simple catch off Australian batsman Aaron Finch.
The broadcast camera panned from the field straight to Sarim Akhtar in the stands, who gave a masterclass in pure, wordless disappointment with his hands planted firmly on his waist.
3) Synchronised fielding of Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul
We often see the joint chase, where two fielders run after a ball, one of them slides and instantly passes it to the other who gets the throw in quicker. But Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul’s synchronisation was of a different kind.
Soon after Gayle departed, Lendl Simmons punched Hafeez square on the off side. Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi raced after it. Afridi put in a slide and stopped the ball.
But he had no one to toss it to, as Gul had gone down on the ground at exactly the same time next to Afridi, in the same manner. The legspinner stood up and threw the ball to the keeper.
2) Himmat Singh Run-out in DPL 2026
During a 2026 Delhi Premier League 2026 match played between New Delhi Tigers and Outer Delhi Warriors at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Tigers’ captain Himmat Singh fumbled a ball at mid-off on the final delivery when 1 run was needed.
In frustration, he kicked the ball, which ricocheted straight into the stumps to run out Pratham Saluja and force a super over.

1) Shoaib Malik and Saeed Ajmal catch drop
During an ODI match in 2008 at Dubai International Stadium, a high-skied, miscued shot went straight up in the air between Shoaib Malik and Saeed Ajmal.
Both players assumed the other was taking the catch, leading to a comical lack of effort as the ball bounced safely onto the pitch untouched.
Netizens generally agree that it remains one of cricket's most iconic and lighthearted bloopers. Shoaib Malik later shared in interviews that when he asked Ajmal what he was doing, Ajmal humorously replied he was just backing him up in case Malik missed it.
