In a significant development, Nat Sciver-Brunt will not be part of the upcoming edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Hobart Hurricanes head coach Jude Coleman confirmed the news that Sciver-Brunt, an integral part of the reigning WBBL champions, has been ruled out of the entire competition.
Sciver-Brunt has been dealing with calf issues for a while, which forced her to play as a designated batter for England in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. She did not take the ball in hand in the recent India women's tour of England and the ongoing Hundred Women 2026 either.
Nat Sciver-Brunt Keeps WPL 2027 In Mind
Sciver-Brunt plays for Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She joined the Mumbai-based franchise, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, for a whopping price of INR 3.2 crore before the inaugural WPL edition in 2023, and has been staying there since then.
Hobart Hurricanes head coach Coleman highlighted the fact that Sciver-Brunt needs to stay fully fit during WPL 2027, which will tentatively happen in mid-January next year.
"We have already heard from Nat Sciver-Brunt that she's not coming back this year at all to the tournament," Coleman told reporters in Hobart on Wednesday.

"It's a disappointing loss for us, but we completely understand. She's had a heavy English summer fighting injuries. She'll also have the WPL (Women's Premier League) in January, so it's really her only time to get some time at home with her son and wife."
Meanwhile, WBBL 2026 will get underway on October 29, with 38 T20s happening between eight teams. It will conclude on December 5.
How Has Sciver-Brunt Fared In WBBL?
Known for being one of the finest all-rounders in women’s cricket at present, Sciver-Brunt made 205 runs in nine innings in WBBL 2025. She also picked up six wickets in eight innings where she got the opportunity to roll her arms, maintaining an economy rate of 8.42.
Even though Sciver-Brunt was not at her absolute best, as she often is, she played her part in WBBL 2025 to help Hobart Hurricanes win their maiden title in the competition.
Sciver-Brunt's Current Form
In the middle of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Nat Sciver-Brunt was out of action for three matches due to a calf injury. She, however, returned to the field later on and finished the competition with an average of 113.50, courtesy of 227 runs across four innings at a strike rate of 142.77.
After that, during India’s Test in England, she made 44 and 11 with the bat. However, with the bat in the Women’s Hundred 2026, the 33-year-old scored 37 and 33 for Trent Rockets, who are currently second on the table with four wins in five matches.
