End Of Road for Ravindra Jadeja Before 2027 World Cup [Source: AFP]
The BCCI formally announced India’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against England. However, the snub of Ravindra Jadeja has caused a huge stir, with fans speculating the end of the road for the veteran.
Jadeja was snubbed from the ODI squad for the England series as Washington Sundar and Axar Patel were selected as first-choice spin all-rounders. Interestingly, this is not the first time Jadeja was ignored.
List of series missed by Ravindra Jadeja since Champions Trophy
Ravindra Jadeja was an active part of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 title-winning squad. After that, he featured in the South Africa and New Zealand series, both held at home.
However, for India’s tour of Australia 2025/26, Jadeja was dropped. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel made the cut as the management believed they were better fits.
Jadeja also missed the Asia Cup held in the T20 format, as he has not played a single T20I since 2024. Later, the all-rounder participated in the IPL 2026 for Rajasthan Royals, where he appeared in solid touch.
Yet, the BCCI ignored him for the Afghanistan series. He not only missed the one-off Test but also the 3-game ODI series.
Now, for the upcoming England ODI series as well, Ravindra Jadeja has failed to grab a spot with the management once again trusting the duo of Sundar and Axar.

Will Jadeja play the 2027 ODI World Cup?
Since Ravindra Jadeja has missed multiple ODI series since the Champions Trophy victory in 2025, it’s safe to assume that he may have fallen off India’s plans for the 2027 World Cup.
Jadeja is currently 37 years old and will turn 38 by the time the World Cup arrives. The management, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, is reportedly not keen on having aged players in the squad, including the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Hence, Ravindra Jadeja may be getting phased out so that Sundar and Axar could get more opportunities before the World Cup, which is to be held in South Africa.
Ajit Agarkar cleared air on Jadeja's future
That being said, while announcing India's squad for the Afghanistan series, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had clarified that Ravindra Jadeja's snub wasn't a retirement signal or a permanent exclusion.
He explained that India already knows what Jadeja can offer. The team wants to use this period to test younger players before the 2027 ODI World Cup, and hence, the veteran all-rounder was rested and not dropped.
It's clear that India have around 15–16 months before the World Cup, and the selectors want to build backup options, especially because the tournament will be played in South Africa, where team balance and all-round abilities will be important.
