The underconfident Mumbai Indians will take on the Punjab Kings in the crucial IPL 2026 match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The Hardik Pandya-led side has won just a solitary game (against KKR), and since then, has gone on a three-game losing streak.

The side just sits above KKR in the points tally (9th position), and the Mumbai-based franchise will be eager to get back to winning ways. Even before the start of the match, MI have been jolted by Rohit Sharma’s injury, and the player has been ruled out of the clash.

Jasprit Bumrah has been wicketless in the IPL 2026, and his form also remains a cause of worry. On the other hand, the Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS have been flying high. Punjab remains the only undefeated team in the IPL 2026, and the team will aim to continue the winning run.

Ahead of the riveting match, we take a look at who won the toss today in MI Vs PBKS IPL match.

MI Vs PBKS IPL 2026 toss update

Punjab Kings won the coin flip and Shreyas Iyer, the skipper had no hesitation in electing to bowl first as chasing becomes easier at Wankhede. PBKS won their last game and have gone in with an unchanged XI.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, surprisingly was happy to lose the toss. The side has made two changes, with Rohit Sharma ruled out, and Quinton de Kock coming in his place. Also, Mitch Santner has been dropped, and Mayank Rawat makes his IPL debut.

De Kock is back for his second stint with MI, and he'll open with his South African partner, Ryan Rickelton.

MI Vs PBKS: What the captains had to say

Shreyas Iyer: "(Decision) We are going to bowl first.

(On the campaign so far) So far so good. We have got a brilliant start. That is what every captain desires. Our combination has been splendid. Now, we have to sustain the momentum.

(On what he told his troops) I just asked everyone from the team to stick to the present. It is easy to get complacent. It is a fast paced game. But it is important to stay in your zone.

Hardik Pandya: "[on his decision] We were looking to bowl first as well. A good toss to lose.

[on needing to win] Time to play some good cricket and get few wins. We played decent cricket, it's just that in a couple of overs we failed to capitalize and lost some big moments.

[on the bowling department conceding too many runs] In the last game we went for four 20+ overs which isn't good in T20 cricket. As a group we are aware what requires us to contain those overs and not let them slide away. We have spoken about it and planned about it, let's see how it goes today.
