The fierce ‘Southern Derby’ rivalry between CSK and RCB seems to have taken a fresh turn, and for the worse. While the two teams put up a high-scoring exhibition in match number 11 of the IPL 2026 season earlier this month, a major controversy broke out in the game pertaining to a song played by the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium DJ.

Taking offence over the ‘provocative’ nature of the song, the CSK franchise has since filed an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to reports, the BCCI is understood to be taking the matter up with RCB officials.

RCB rapped by BCCI over offensive song against CSK

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan earlier confirmed that the franchise has lodged an official complaint with the BCCI over the controversial remarks used by the RCB DJ at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in match number 11 of the IPL 2026 season.

The comments, or rather the choice of music, was considered as provocative by several CSK fans, claiming that it was aimed at inciting the crowd in the stadium. According to a latest report from Cricbuzz, it is understood that the BCCI has taken up the matter with the RCB franchise.

What happened during RCB vs CSK match

RCB batted first in match 11 of the IPL 2026 season against the visiting CSK side in Bengaluru. Courtesy of half-centuries from Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29) and Tim David (70* off 25) and a boisterous 19-ball 48* from captain Rajat Patidar, the defending champions mounted 250-3 in 20 overs.

However, shortly prior to the CSK run chase, the stadium DJ played the track ‘Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney.’ It is worth noting that the lyrics of this song are mostly used in internet memes in a bid to stereotype South Indian culture.

With many CSK fans perceiving the choice of song as a means to incite the crowd, the franchise fittingly filed an official complaint with the BCCI.

While talking with the Indian Express, Kasi Viswanathan said “The DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering that, we have written to the BCCI to look into it.

RCB and CSK endure contrasting journeys in IPL 2026

Controversies aside, the RCB franchise is currently placed at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with four wins and one defeat from five matches. Their NRR also reads a formidable 1.503, the best among all 10 teams at the moment.

The CSK franchise, on the other hand, is struggling at number eight on the 10-team points table with just two wins and three defeats from five games. The team is also struggling with an injury concern to legendary wicketkeeper-batter and former captain MS Dhoni. CSK will now face the SRH in match 27 of the tournament on April 18 later this weekend in Hyderabad.
